Deck Support

I have a 2000 280 Silencer, I am having a problem with cracks around the bow hatch, the previous owner had them repaired, but they cam back shortly after. I also can see some flex in the bow, when I'm in rougher conditions, probably a result of the cracks, around 10".

I just was looking at a picture of a 99 in the classifieds and it had gussets from the hull almost to the hatch. I dont think mine has them, it's not here so I cant check. Does anyone else have gussets? I am thinking of having some made, how would I attach them to the deck?

thanks

Do you mean the bulk head inside the cabin? I thought most boats have them.I would think yours would have them.I am looking at a 2001 powerquest catalog. The pictuer of the 280s silencers interior shows the mid ship bulk head going up the sides of the hull, but the pictuer gets cut off showing it going under the deck.If by some chance yours dont have them or they came loose/not attached properly,i think any competent boat fiberglass guy could bond/fiberglass them in place.Try posting on the paint and fiberglass section.Good luck!

I have supports between the seat and the V berth but they dont extend as far as this picture, this is a 99 in the classifieds. wonder why they put them on some and not others.

I would think having the bulkhead extended farther, or better yet have both sides join would increase ridgity and help get rid of some flex.I would try to get some advise from some one that specializes in structueral boat repairs. Try glass dave, or Art Offshore ginger in the fiberglass and paint section. It looks like powerquest did it that way to gain headroom.

Just put a brass pole right up the middle.......and make sure it extends 8 feet through the bow for some at the dock action!!! :evilb: :drink:

I just went to Boat trader and took a look at all the 28 listed and everyone I looked at was just like yours with no bulkhead support. I would give a few of the other 28 owners a phone call and see if they are having the same issue. Really seems odd to me that they cut the supports out of the 28.
