Factory

Any new news. Are they making boats or just cleaning up?

powerquest 380 02-27-2007 07:14 AM

yea, what's up?

Knot 4 Me 02-27-2007 07:52 AM

I hear they are ramping up to start making matresses at the end of the first quarter. You do realize it is a matress factory now, don't you?! :D :evilb:

That should get Wally and Rich to chime in!:D

Fast Forward 02-27-2007 03:49 PM

I'm somewhat surprised they have yet to make any formal announcement.. Unless I missed it.......................

Mentalpause 02-27-2007 06:11 PM

My guess is there is a lot of work to do to get everything in order to start production. Plus it makes a person wonder if they are doing any mold work to get them ready, or tweaking them in any fashion?

Assuming they will open, I actually think it is a good sign that they are taking their time and making sure they get it right.

Macklin 02-27-2007 07:41 PM

Be patient folks. The word is still late March or April. Like MP said, they need to get their ducks in a row first. I was told they are working on list pricing now. Everyone knows how much prices have escalated on these expensive toys in the last couple of years.

Mentalpause 02-27-2007 08:03 PM

On the surface pricing may seem fairly simple. I bet it is not. How accurate are the old parts lists, if they are even available? How many parts have changed? How many distributers have changed? Will there be added features that have not been priced? What are the current prices for the materials and parts?

What amount of labor, and at what price an hour will it take them to produce boats now?

Are the answers in Trivial Pursuit?

Nope - had none. Ate dinner first and lost my thirst.

Come on guys, how about some real news. Any one driven by the place recentlly?

bbraun 03-05-2007 06:53 PM

I talked to the factory today. They are working on retooling some things and coming up with a different laminating process as we speak....along with all the new pricing and guidelines. Looks like they will be focusing on the 28's and up!!! Dont think it will be much longer before you see new product rolling out of the factory:D

Fast Forward 03-05-2007 08:17 PM

Thats great news!! However it seems odd that they would drop the number one seller PQ had the 26 Legend (still in production).. But than again maybe the number one seller was also a low profit boat.

Fast Forward 03-16-2007 07:35 PM

I was in GR today to pick up a new kayak at the fishing show. I had planned on stopping by PQ on the way home to see what was up but ran out of time. Has anyone else had an opportunity to swing by???

So GG what are you referring to when you mentioned a wider lip??

speed demon 03-17-2007 04:02 PM

I was out in Holland Friday visiting a customer so I stopped by the PQ office around 4pm to see what was going on. Both Phil Hall and Mark Bosteman were there. I talked to Mark (who’s in charge of sales) for a little while and basically as stated before they are working on retooling and a new infusion / vacuum bagged lamination process for future boats similar to what Outerlimits uses which would strengthen and lighten the hauls as much as 2k lbs. Also, looking at putting some bigger power in the boats. Mark referenced he worked at Skater for awhile and raced Cat Can Do of Baker Engineering. Stated Phil is an engineer and had helped build some of Reggie Fountain’s race boats. They want to focus on the 38 Avenger & 32 SC, basically the boats with more margins. PQ also wants to market in bigger cities nationally. Again, working on pricing which I expect will go up quite a bit. It definitely sounded like they want to take PQ to the next level.

I told Mark everyone on OSO was anxious to hear a formal announcement either on OSO or their website.

Good Luck to PQ for great things to come!

johnny b good 03-17-2007 06:37 PM

Not to rush anything, but if all goes well we might see a 42-43 footer with more performance and creature comfort than the Avenger some day!

Fast Forward 03-18-2007 10:08 AM

Little surprised the 34 has not in mix. I would think the 26,30,34 & 38 would be a great offering list. I never understood why they had a 22,23 & 24, Seems one of those models would have covered all 3. I will say the 38 if by far the best looking in the line up. What ever they do I'm simply glad to see the local PQ back up and running.

MK 04-19-2007 08:48 PM

Any new updates on this?

I'm surprised that no one from the factory has published an official announcement that they are open for business (maybe they aren't ready to build yet?)

There are 5-10 cars there every morning when I drive by so they must be doing something in there.

I've read the previous posts on this thread as to what they are planning to do but wonder why they wouldn't start building the boats the way they are currently tooled and then work on changes once there is an operational business with some cash flow.

A very interesting strategy...

New air intakes on the 380

Talk to the factory yesterday. They are still cleaning up the molds. They told me that they are going to redesign the air intakes on the top mold deck on the 380. This should help with performance. Said they will be coming out with 2008 models by July.

They should be able to tell you when they will shoot the mold if there is going to be a boat ready in July. I would think they would be shooting very soon.

There isn't a manual on the boat but you can get a manual on the motors and outdrive from BAM Marine
I had a 99 Powerquest for a few years and may be able to help you with some of your questions . Is there anything specific you are intrested in?
You can get some very general test results on the 34 by going to Powerboat Magazine web page and looking under test results.

If the toilet is a pump out, you should find a fitting somewhere outside the boat where you hook up to a pump out. That would be the case whether or not you have a separate tank, or the tank is part of the toilet. The fitting should look similar to a gas fitting or the water tank fitting, but should have "waste" on the cap.

As far as stripes, hopefully someone on the forum knows a vinyl stripe provider that has the PQ patterns. If not, you may be able to take a picture of what you want to a local shop and have them make the stripes.

Good Luck.

rom 32 04-26-2007 01:24 AM

i have a seperate tank for toilett and i have the cap waste.. so now i wonder some emty the tank in the sea.. but this one i have i must open" waste" looks like the gas cap and then suckit clean but whith what.. okej i understand maby i bring my lokal striper a picture

I bet you do not have the set up to empty in the sea. So you will have to suck it out. In the US most marinas have pump out set ups so when you get fuel you can pump the head out.

I've also used a shop vac to suck them out. It gets a little messy cleaning up the shop vac though.

Macklin 04-28-2007 06:28 AM

rom, the only way you can do a pump on "in the sea" is if you have a macerator. Mine is mounted in the storage compartment under the first seat cushion to the right as you walk into the cabin...directly in front of the head.

If you have one, you will also have a switch for it on the DC power panel. You will need to open the valve on the macerator. Then you need to turn the vacuflush off and flush it to relieve the pressure in the system. The macerator will not work if the system is pressurized. (The same is true for a shore pump out.) Then power up the macerator and let it pump until it spools up indicating it is empty.

My bet is you don't have a macerator and you will need to go to a shore pump out station as MP mentioned above.

BillR 04-28-2007 07:37 AM

He also may not have a Vacuflush head.
I guess more info on what is actually in the boat is needed.

Silverado 04-28-2007 10:11 PM

rom 32, why don't you just call the factory to get answers for your questions? It appears that PQ is taking phone calls and have people in place to give some tech support.

.

rom 32 04-29-2007 09:38 AM

:drink: okej tank you all i do that call pq but last summer i tryed many times but no answer but if its open again i do that ... and marylandmark i do not pulling some leg

Macklin 04-29-2007 04:42 PM

rom, you strike me as a funny guy! I commend you for doing your best at coming on here for information. You have come to the right place.

But, like BillR posted, my advice is only applicable to Vacuflush toilets. So what kind of toilet do you have?

Sorry for taking this thread off topic...

gaiter 05-02-2007 05:58 AM

What's the number for the factory?

Silverado 05-02-2007 10:20 AM

It used to be 616-772-9474 - it may have changed with the change of ownership.

gaiter 05-03-2007 01:50 PM

That is still the number - I got ahold of them today, said they are working on the web site, should be updated soon, and are going to have a 28 and a 32.

sommerfliesby 05-03-2007 07:21 PM

Glad to see it's starting to come around over there. I really enjoyed my 29 and will probably look at 38s in the future...the wife likes the interior very much.
