Gas leak/smell

Looking for some advice. I'm looking at a 290 enticer and the owner claims if you fill the tank pass 3/4 full you smell gas till the tank is 3/4 or below. Does anybody have any ideas? Could it be as simple a a loose vent line?

Use your nose and find where it's coming from...Gas fumes are NOT something that I'd want to deal with. I'd be very careful with this one...

I had a 1998 enticer and used to top it off all the time before going on trips and never had any gas or fume smells.I would definitely find the reason before considering the boat.

Maybe get in the boat with a cigarette lighter and keep moving it around, you'll find where it's coming from.:D

lift the rear seat and remove the cover for the fuel level sending unit.
inspect the sending unit seal.I bet its leaking.

Check the gasket on the gauge sending unit. I had one leak on my 260.

I have the same exact problem, I'll have to inspect this sending unit seal/gasket.

Did you see any fuel at the source of the leak ? I have gas odor after my 311 is closed up ... the sending unit access is at the rear of the tank in the engine room ... I havn't noticed any fuel around the sending unit but there is definitally fumes coming from somewhere .....thanks .....m

Sending unit gasket seal was bad on my Fountain as well...topped the sucker off right after I bought it and had it sitting on my lift with the bow high in the air for an hour or so while I was adjusting the lift...ended up with a couple gallons of gas in the bilge...NOT something I'd recommend! Fixed the seal, fixed the leak. Now I smell gas ONLY when it's coming out of the vents because it's that full.
