Realistic speed numbers for a 280

I really like the Silencer and have a couple that I'm considering. A decision breaker is performance. I would like to know Realistic speed numbers for a 280 silencer with a 502mpi. Boat in question has the fairing(not windshield), trim tabs and drive shower. Is a 2001 but less than 100 hrs.
Also know of a 2004 with a 496HO. Can you guys help me out?

Not Right here on OSO has that same boat....I seem to remember him saying it would just kiss the 70 mph mark but not positive I have that correct.

You are correct grasshopper. :D

BillR had one with a 502 mag. He actually got a tad over 70 with a really fast prop. I had a Baja 272 with same engine and upgrades....stainless marine exhaust and vortech flame arrestor....and he would just barely pull away from me at 68 gps. (I definitely had a strong motor in that boat!) That's in salt. Take a mile or two off of that in fresh.

Great boat. Ran A LOT better on the lower Chesapeake Bay than my Baja. Then we both moved up to PQ 340's. Man, was it nice not having to go to the chiropractor every Monday morning after a long run across the Bay.

Oh, BTW, I vote for the HO. SWEET motor! And they redesigned the BS exhaust system the 502 has. First question for the 502 owner is "have you upgraded the exhaust".

best friends family has a 2003 280, carb 500 with cmi sweeper headers, runs 73 any day, but nothing more......

Ditto on what Macklin said. Also the 502 boat is faster out of the hole and has more room around the motor than the 496 equipped boats.
It was a great boat!!!!

My top speed has been 71 GPS so far.

Thanks everybody. I am familiar with the 502, that's what I had in my last boat. Trying to find a 27-29 ft performance boat, that will run mid 70's and still be within my price range is proving tough.
Funny thing is my Stingray 230sx , with the 502mpi would only run 70 GPS, how does the same motor push a 28 the same speed?
Did they make the Silencer with a 500efi?

I had a 1999 280 with the 502 and bravo four blade , I believe 26' Tops was 65. Didn't have tabs

middle 60's is more realistic .... fuel, people, gear ... boat runs 65 ... lighten the load, play with props etc and you are upper 60's.

I bought hp500efi's 280, added CMI headers, 1" drive spacer, K&N flame arrester, and lab finished 26" B-1. With 2 people (400 lbs) 1/2 tank fuel 68.6 GPS. By myself a touch shy of 70. Sending the prop back to BBlades for a little more tinkering....
