Default Engine alignment? Tips???

Scott (or any others) I know you have at least tightened the motor mounting bolts, but have you adjusted the height to align the drive? I feel I will probably have to align the drives on my project. I have the tool but I am curious if you have any tips on how to reach the nuts and what size wrench you use.

Ray,

The engines should have been aligned when the motors were installed. Insert the tool into the Gimbal and it should be o.k. I don't think the drive style will effect this since you are not changing the physical location of the engines or the gimbals.

The wrench size that fits your mounts is a 1 1/16" you may have to buy a cheap one and cut it in half so you have room to turn it. I would plan on standing on my head or sitting under the motors (not easy to get to). I would also suggest putting hose clamps below the bottom nut even though it has the lock on it they still turn. Too tight is not tight enough

Please check them every trip out and save your self-a lot of aggravation. I could not believe how loose mine were after about 4 hours.

Thanks Scott, I am hoping things will line up but one drive was Harder to get out than the other it seemed there was a bind in the drive shaft. After I get my gimble bearings installed (still waiting for a couple of seals from bam) I will check with the tool and hopefully all will go OK if not I want to be prepaired. Stand on my head? I dont think so. I do have a skinny guy working for me in my warehouse..... Cut the wrench in half thats the kind of tip I was looking for. Thanks.

Get a paint pen and draw a vertical line down both nuts and the mount after everything is aligned and tightened, That way you can tell in a glance if the nuts are backing off.

That is good idea Lee. My motor is being pulled as we speak due to one of the nuts backing off last summer and wearing the coupler. I am putting in the steal coupler, figure that is cheaper than pulling the motor again.
