Also can the alpha handle this power being a small boat? I am an experienced boater and don't break drives on a regular basis. I just want this to be a fun reliable easy to tow and good on gas kinda boat thanks

If memory serves the fuel tank is in the bow in the 185 to help with weight distribution and they handle differently depending on fuel load. I would think a big block would really throw off the CG and make for an ill handling/poor performing boat. Given that it also has an Alpha drive, I would look to power it with a small block in the 300 - 350 HP range to accomplish your goals.

It's been a busy December and January!

We sold our house and moved the first of December to something a little smaller with a nice in-law suite. A couple of small renos later and the inlaws are all moved in.....my garage went from 1200 square feet to about 400.... So it's been challenging to set up my new glorified shed!
Moving two families has had me running busy!!

Long winter for sure...a week in tampa and a quick run down to the Detroit boat show sure helped. On one hand I can't wait for the warm weather but on the other still a heck of a lot of "winter" projects to finish up before boating season!
