After looking at a 290 Iv decided i really like some of the amenities offerd in PQ.Seem like a great boat for over nighting. Im looking for a 280 or 290 newer the better!!! Condition is key and my max price range is in the upper 20's.

I think you will have better luck finding a 270 in that price range!
if you want to stay in the mid to upper 20k you will most likely be buying a early 90s 290,and thats ok because they are built real well.

good luck and lets know what you find.

Iv looked at 2 290;s around 30k a 94 and a 98.I just couldnt get into the 94;s graphics. The 98 still has a chance just has a few stress cracks that kinda scare me. But beside that a nice boat. I know what alot of people are asking ,but I think alot of those boats are for sale just to keep the wife quiet. If you really want to sell a boat in this market be ready to face the facts your going to give it away. I had to come down 7k on mine to sell it but guess what! Its sold!

I gave my 2000 280 away a year ago for 28K so deals are out there, it was in very good condition, it did have quite a few stress cracks though, I think people ar high if they think a 10 yr old boat that sold for 65K new is worth much more than 30K or so

I think the ones giving them away are doing so bc they have to, I haven't seen a 290 in good condition dip below 37-38k... and that was with base motors. There is no way id sell mine for less than 40k, especially after all the updates last year.
There are a few very nice 270's for sale in your price range and really they have the same room as a 280... just a tad slower with the non-step hull

Also if you don't like graphics Mitcher T does great work and could make a 94 look 10 yrs newer without paying the extra price for a newer boat

O I know asking prices have not dipped below that price range but the nada books don't lie. Average retail on a 98 w/ base motors is 28k add a few thousand for the trailer and your in the 30-32k actual selling price. Heres my question are the stress cracks normal with PQ>? Is it just a gel coat issue? I have been holding off on this one because i was afraid they would kill the resale if I ever had to sell it.

Where are the cracks? Hopefully not in the bilge.. have you had it surveyed?

As far as NADA pricing goes I've found it to be all over the place and also does not give options for things such as upgraded bolsters, gauges, throttles, and especially exterior graphics/paint jobs. I haven't seen NADA numbers as low as you posted though... I ran my boat through and 'average retail' was 35k without trailer, and that's for a plain white 290 with plain interior. Check out my boat if you want to, I made a thread "making some changes to the 290" all the before/after pics are in there
