well since we are just throwing opinions...fountain fastest but small. Active Thunder best ride in the rough and a true"speed" boat. PQ is the best "all round" boat. Nice ride. good speed. nice luxuries such as cabin and cockpit size with storage and cupholders where you need them.
The 280 actually smooths out and feels more stable at 75 than at 65. That hull does get weird from about 63-68 mph. Never got up to 80 as a comparison but 70 and up feels solid. again...just my opinion |
i was down at the 1000 island poker run this yr and spoke to the owner of "bullet engines" rob... he just finished repowering a 280 with 650 n/a engine and it hit 83 mph gps. he said it was tracking wickedly at the 80mph range and handled some big chop from cruisers fairly well ....the boat was in the water when i spoke to him and it was a beauty of a boat, no windshield but a faring i guess?

Hydraulic steering is a must. K planes are a good idea also.
|
So my 257 has no step..does the step aid in handling at higher speeds, or does it cruise more eifficiently....it also has no tabs or hydro steering...yea I no time to upgrade!
|
Steps free friction. Doesn't mean they are or aren't more stable at speed. Generally a step hull will run faster and also flatter than a conventional hull.

Windshield boat though and not fairing... the new owner (neighbour) loves the boat and has run an 83 as mentioned. This hull works well, except for a little chine walk that needs tab input. |
nice boat verbie....is that pic from nippissing, what power did u have in her

sorry verbie just reread your post..was that your 280? the one rob had out this summer? if so my bad on the fairing...but chit it did sort a look like yours, it was hard to tell i didnt see him leave the docks(and they had them wedged pretty tight) so the complete colour schem i could not make out
