In your case, unfortunately, all the mods don't return the investment, or anything even remotely close to it. Just like cars, trucks, and most of the time-houses, money spent making it better is money thrown into the breeze.
Not knocking you or your boat in any way, I'm sure its fun and maybe a little spooky (not sure about the 280 at 80, kplanes probably help a lot), but just the way it is. I've learned this hard lesson myself with cars and trucks. Over, and over, and over again.

How fast have you had your 280 on GPS? I am wondering how fast that boat is with a 454 instead of a 502

64-65 with a 454
66-67 with a 502, 68-69 with some prop work and a couple small mods.

Bob, I hate to say it but your just overpriced, maybe try selling the motor separate, maybe someone will swap a stock 502 for your motor and some cash, stick the stocker in your boat and it will sell for 30K
