Slack in 290 PQST LASER steering
I've got slack in my steering wheel, going back and forth. Anyone dealt with the fix for this? I have 4" travel between sides. Dealer says $1300 in parts alone. New Gimbel, and shaft. HELP

You are correct, sorry. I did that somewhere else on another post. two-foot-itis I guess. I am winterizing this weekend, I am going to go over the lines and cables as best I can. I have a bad feeling this is a Gimble and shaft problem.

As stated, make sure the cable is tight where it joins the steering cylinder. Mine seemed tight feeling it by hand, but when I had someone move the wheel, it moved about 1/4".
That helped, but I still had side to side play. My gimbal was worn - not as bad as many, I had about 1 inch play to each side when moving the outdrive. A good way to tell if it is the gimbal- a worn gimbal will also allow the drive to move up and down when lifted by hand. You can see the movement between the gimbal and transom.
I used the JR Marine method to repair mine, the gimbal repair alone cost about 350 and took a couple of hours. But, I bought the SS pin from the swap shop for $50. I also replaced everything while I had it off, which an hour more, and about 150 in extra parts. So, about $500, and 3 hours.
Search the tech forums, there are great posts here detailing it.

Thanks. I'm down at the Lake this weekend. I need to have this looked at for sure. The wind has been bad the last couple weeks. So getting in the dock was rough a few times.
