Congrats with sadness from me. I was hoping this one would still be around in the spring. That paint is killer. The search continues...

Thanks all for the kind comments. Here are a few more pics. The upgrades begin this weekend.

I am really fortunate that I have a guy who is a phenomenal boat builder/mechanic. He measured the cubic volume of the boat this week and feels the 8-9000 range is correct for this size area. He is going to pull the boat off the trailer (has a portable jack/bunk system) to make work easier throughout the next few weeks (air install, a couple of gel stress cracks above the rub rail, full buff detail, etc). He ordered the unit, but I am not sure what it is yet. I will let you know, if interested. He is not sure of placement yet either, but I will let you know what we decide. We pulled the center table stand this week to look around below and did see a bit of standing water there. Is this common with the 38's.?It was not enough to pump, and I think it came in the drain at the foot of the cabin entrance (we hosed the cockpit down once we got the boat inside). We may re-plumb that drain too (I don't like it just dumping into the bilge).

Nice boat...what will it run with the HOs?

vista268 12-07-2011 07:58 PM

top speed

My broker said he was able to get it in the solid mid to upper 70's when he commissioned it for us two weeks ago (had not been run in a year or so). BUT, it was very light on fuel, he was by himself and it was about 35 degrees out. So in the real world, I would expect 73 to 75. As a matter of fact, I just found the original "Performance Certificate" that Powerquest put with the shipping package for this boat and they reported the "Average Top Speed" to be certified with radar at 74.6 mph. I will be happy with that.

That's impressive, I wouldn't have thought that fast.

Yeah, I don't know if they (Powerquest) exaggerated or not, but they did put it on a nice certificate that looks like a title! I am looking more for rough water cruising in the 50's range, so top end is not a big deal to me.

Where do you boat?

vista268 12-07-2011 08:25 PM

Basically Lake Michigan or Huron. We typically jump on the boat for a week or so, run the heck out of it and then back on a trailer for 2-3 weeks before our next trip. We like long runs and that is why we think this boat will be perfect. As an example, last summer, we put in at Alpena, Michigan and over the course of 9 days, ran down to Lake Erie and back. Great trip and saw a lot of unique sites. But, we ran by ourselves and were in a single engine cruiser, so decided it was time for twins. We also like Elk Rapids as a starting point and run over to Wisconsin from time to time. Again, twins will be a much improved situation for us.
