Need more speed
Having owned my 260sx legend for a couple of years now looking to squeeze some more speed out of here. It has the 496HO, She currently GPS @ 58 at 4600rpm. I'm looking at pulling the corsa exhaust W/mufflers non Switchable to running straight through W/flaps. Then looking at sending the prop in to get labbed. I do have tabs so hopefully they can squeeze a bit out of the prop. Was even thinking of new manifolds not sure how much more that would give me.

What size you running currently. I still have a buddies labbed 26p that its basically brand new sitting around I haven't got back to him yet.
Pulling the "turbolator" plates out of the exhausts has shown 10-15hp on the dyno. I'm sure someone will dispute this but I read it online so its gotta be true! They even had a dyno sheet with colored lines to prove it! Lol |
What prop and what pitch are you running? You should be turning 5K RPM at WOT so you are leaving speed on the table.
|
I would agree you are definitely leaving some speed on the table. You should run 65mph with that HO at least. Leave the nice personality girls at the dock!:lolhit:
|
LOL...."nice personallity girls at the dock "Depending on how nice they are, that might get that last 400 rpms out of that HO
|
If you're running a 23p Mirage Plus, be aware it's not a "true" 23. I'd go with a 22 or 21 Hydromotive QIV. I made the mistake of going with a 23 Hydormotive QIV, although up 2mph it bogged down my rmps. It did cure my chine walk in an instant, but I wish I went with a small size.

This will get you where you want to be....
For sale fresh rebuild, 10K with stock ported manifolds.. |
Well I have been trying to get back in for two days. Had to recreate password and have done that so many times. So my new user name will be pq260ho.
Well the prop i have is the 23 laser plus |
Shoulda bought my 280. All you would be doing is washing it and holding on ! 80 gps !!
|
I just could not pass this deal up 2yrs back 03 with 71 hrs. I had a 22 stingray for 6 yrs and was over getting beat to death. This boat rides like a dream even on the craziests weekend holidays. My goal this year is attempt to get her into the low 60's if possible. Tryed to talk my accountant into a super charge but NO! But in two years will be offing this for larger and quicker,
|
Pm Speedgirl, our forum moderator, that way you can get your old account squared away. Not sure what's going on with your HO but you should be mid 60's all day with that setup
|
This is my 280 with the Raylar 525, stock exhaust, before the installation of CMI headers.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqxSciMAUCc
|
What kind of hp are you getting out of it verbi
|
According to Raylar, the 496 with the BCK-103 kit puts out 525-535hp and 600 ft/tq. Add a good header system and the power jumps up again to the 565- 575 hp range. The computer needs to be tweeked for optimum performance which this one has.
Best speed I saw was 74 mph in the 280. Sorry for the highjack boys!! |

I believe your boat is too heavy to be running a Laser. The diameter and blade surface area are probably not enough to carry the bow of a boat as heavy as your 260. The best thing you can do is call Brett at BBlades and give him your information in terms of boat, motor, RPM, speed, etc. and he can recommend the best prop for your application.
|
I agree with the prop reccomendation - call Brett. You should be doing more than that, I'm turning 57 gps any day with my 257 w/ the stock 7.4 300 hp. Water right, 58 is possible.
|
i think you'd be better off with a mirage...
|
Well looks like I will be calling Bret @ BBlades. Thanks for the info.
Would their be much gain if I changed out the manifolds and pull the mufflers out of it? |

Damn Verbi69! I need that motor!!! You interested in a stocker 496ho in trade?

If you are interested i have a custom labbed and cupped 3 blade mirage prop in 99 percent perfect condition solid hub, 23 pitch just rebalanced and sharpened. It ran 3 mph faster then my mirage plus.
