Any updates on your setup? I have a buddy that just bought 280 silencer with a 454 mag and he is planning on installing a procharger. I think he's expecting 80's out of the boat according to the shop selling him the charger. I'm just doing a little research for him, reading about other builds and results.
Any ideas on why so much slip? I haven't seen his boat in person so I'm unfamiliar with this model boat. Does it have a high x dimension from the factory?
Thanks

Agree. stock low 60s i ran high 60s with my stock 502 mpi mag. procharged with 5lb of boost id say your buddys boat 454 mag would do 70-72. And i think the slip issues have to do with the size of the step in the hull boiling the water tremendously and the 280 is one of the heavier single engine boats on the market. weight creates drag and that causes slip. If i ever get the $$ saved up im going with an extention box, twin hydro steer, and a nice set of K plains. im sure that will get my slip #s in the mid teens and top my speeds out around 78. but more importantant it will help the handeling of the boat at speed and thats what im really looking for.

Thanks for all the replys. We both stepped up to 280's this year. I am almost finished with my velocity 280 and he's picking up his pq 280 this week. We are both coming from 22 and 23' baja's so it should be a fun summer.

The hull design and high x dim create a lot of prop slip. I use a 5 blade to help with my slip. I gained over 5mph at 3100rpm but lost 5 at 4900rpm. I spend most my time under 3500 rpm so it works out ok for me. When I run a 4 blade I will run 75 but it will actually discolor the prop from the heat of the prop slipping in the water. It took me a season of boating trying to figure out why my prop would not stay shiny. As josh mentioned, ext box would help out but I am not out to chase every mph. Velocity is a faster hull but the PQ has a lot more luxuries.
