I know you won't listen to a Sunsation owner, but it does depend on what engine you have. Stock (black) Merc power do not have an issue with running exhaust closed, Merc (blue) HP motors will void the warranty if run over 2000-3000RPM.
I think that may be the reason for conflicting answers.
