I know you sent your props to Merc. for lab work. Who did you talk to and do you have a number to call? Thanks for any info.

snopro, here are a few e-mails addresses to guys that should be able to help you out.

Bill has always told me to contact Merc Racing and tell them to use his name (Bill Rippel) as the reference to the 280 prop specs.

Also, Dennis Cavanaugh(sp). Be prepared to open your wallet!

May I also suggest York Propeller in LA.

I spoke with Brett Anderson. They should have a file on me and the work done on the prop. Here is a copy of the letter I sent with the prop. This is the second time I sent the prop back Standard lab finish on a B1 24P would hit the rev limiter. Brett suggested adding more cup 20 thousandths if I remember.
Hope this helps.

Brett:

I spoke with you early Monday morning (4/24/2000) about getting my recently lab finished prop from hitting the rev limiter (5080 rpm) so hard. When I had about 25 gallons of fuel, & 2 people, it hit the rev limiter pretty hard. I could actually throttle back slightly and it would still bump the limiter. After I put about 45 gallons of fuel in it (3/4 tank) it would still hit the limiter but not quite as hard.
I am sending you the prop by UPS red label, and I will pay for next day shipping back to me. You said on the phone you would expedite this and return it by the weekend. Please call to inform me how much the shipping is so I can have a certified check ready.
The boat is a 2000 Powerquest 280 28' w/ a stepped hull & weighs about 4800 lbs, The motor is a Merc 502mpi and is now running 5080 rpm @ 67.7 gps mph . I am looking more top speed.
The results so far are most impressive. I had a vibration at 1400 rpm. That is now gone! The hole shot is greatly improved. It now has more bite out of the hole, kinda like my old Duo-prop. I saw 1.5 mph more, despite holding the throttle back to keep from hitting the limiter.
You said you were going to some edge work, wouldn't adding an inch of pitch be better for more speed? The boat does not seem to have lack of bite when the motor is trimmed up anymore. Please give this some thought and give me a quick call when you receive this. I am at 757-491-7666 11am-5pm EDT.
Thanks for getting this out by the weekend for me
