I have a lot of cracks in a lot of different places non exept one of them is very bad. I do know that the factory recognized the problems and re-enforced some of the areas. I also heard that they were considering a different type gelcoat but I really don't know what they ended up with. What I do know is that it sucks being a Gunnea Pig
I also might add that they did try and repair some of the spots on my boat that were bad all have come back with the exeption of a spot near my rub rail. The real bad ones that needed to be fixed were not, do to me using my 38 offshore boat like they were designed to be used. If I boated in a small lake with no waves I'm sure none of this would be a issue.
I can only assume that if your looking at anything newer than a 2000 you won't see the cracks like I have!

My 91 29 or my 99 38 and I havent seen a stress crack except where the cut one of my strakes and filled, it was from shrinkage of the filler used, they repaired it and hasnt come back. Pq's dont seem to show that kind of wear as much as others. Just my EXPERT opinion!

Jan,

This is the story. I am know own a 2000 18' Fourwinns. I ordered the boat brand new, only has five hours beginning this summer. I now has 14hrs on the boat. My boat started to have spider-web cracks on the bottom hull of the boat and on the side. I always stored it in a barn/garage. Took good care of it.

I am now looking for a 237 stryker. With a lot of money I am going to put in a PQ. Would I get the same kind of cracks like I have with my boat right now. I can see that PQ do have the same issue.

I had an '00 280 Silencer- NO cracks.
I now have an '02 340 Vyper - No cracks.

Down here there are two more '02 340 Vypers - No cracks.

The older 340 / 380 had some areas that were prone to spider cracks, but PQ has addressed the problem. They beefed up the prone area with a ton more glass and they switched to a different supplier of gel coat. I am told some gel coats are more prone to cracks than others. PQ now uses Cook's Armour coat 2002.

Spider cracks on the BOTTOM I don't think you'll EVER see that on a PQ. . . or any other performance boat for that matter.
