I have an XV Entended Box on my 280, with a 525 EFI (502 cid,-525/570 to 635 cid, 860/930), with a Billet XR drive 1.14 gear and a 26" full cut hydromotive prop, box run perfect, high performance steering and easier shifting in and out of gear, it does hurt two things though, the trim won't tilt as high for shallow running, and it will cut the turning radius by a full turn each way, it was initially set-up for a whipplecharged 502 MPI, but when I bought it I wanted a naturally aspired engine so I built up a 525 EFI/502 to 635. Did 78 MPH on GPS with the 1.5 gear at 6000 RPM.

So the understanding I'm getting here is that you never had the boat without the extension box it always had it

That is correct, the XV Extended Box, and the XR Bravo 1 weren't in production back then they were just prototypes back in 2000, it was the only drive available that hold over 600 HP off the rack, and balance over 90 MPH at the same time.
