Default 34 Vyper Hull changes

Looking at jumping up to a 34 Vyper in the near future. I have read up on what to look for with the 38's, but can't spot the changes on the 34 as easily. Did the 34 not undergo the later changes that the 38 did? A 2000-2003 Vyper seems to fall within realm of possibilities and I have found several I like. What are the real world speeds of those years with the twin 496/502 motors? I see around 73-75 which isn't shabby at all for that big of a boat. I really love the cabin size and layout as I am a tall guy. We have been staying overnight a lot more and our 253 Checkmate is cramped. I'm ready for a fast cruiser.

By the way, I plan on modifying power and drives. Thinking procharged LSx motors ~800-900 hp a side connected to Imco SCX-4 drives to make a fast floating condominium. What has been the biggest power that has been dropped into a 34? I have seen some late model 38's with mild blue motors pushing 80 which is very impressive for something you can almost stand up in the cabin.

If you plan on doing the motor upgrades, get a 380. The 340 gets hairy around 80. Others with first hand experience will chime in.

What causes the ill handling? Too much hook in the hull? Improper balance/weighting?

I agree....Not sure if you have the motors or not, but I'd enjoy a 340 for a stock, turn key reliable 70-75 mph boat. I'd put that power in another hull.

We picked up a 2002 with 500s. Love the boat, runs in the mid to low 80s just fine.

Try to find a 2002 or newer. They changed the hull in late 2001

Thanks 598! That's my plan. I hear those years run very well. I am pretty sold on the Vyper hull. That new 300 is very nice as well but I want the enclosed head and formal galley of the 34. I can't find another boat that has the amount of room the PQ has in this size range. I have always liked PQ's. I almost bought a 29 Enticer before my Checkmate.

Agree.

I would not even think about throwing that money In a Vyper and that power. The hull will not respond well to it. It doesn't ride that well at 80 to begin with.
