I would highly recommend the "aqualon" vs sunbrella. I believe PQ stopped using aqualon on 02 and newer.
No!, its not for sale:D |
AQUALON VS. SUNBRELLA
Thanks for the input Kentz. She said the aqualon was less expensive. She is going to mail me some samples of both. I can't open your attachment though with my membership. Could you send it to me at work, [email protected]
Is there any specific reason you recommend one fabric over the other? Michael |
I'm no canvas expert but I believe the aqualon is water proof, It does not breath like sunbrella, so you need vent holes on cockpit covers, etc. Unfortunately I don't think it has a lot of color options, but........
I have found that it has a substantially longer and better looking life than sunbrella. It also is much more tear/rip resistant. I'm done with purple sunbrella mooring covers&bimini tops, looks like hell after 4 years. My 96 260, aqualon cockpit cover literally looked brand new when I sold it after 5 years. ps. my new mooring cover is sunbrella "silver/grey", the most uv forgiving shade they have:cool: |
I second the Aqualon VS. other material.
Much better material and won't stain as bad as sunbrella. Plus it is water. oil, gas and other liquids-proof. |
What have your experiences been with Aqualon in winter (e.g. cold, snow on cover, etc)?
Thanks.... Jeff |
Snow? what's that??
My boat is kept in dry storage, but the material is fine even when cold. |
Bill - rub it in!!!
Still very nice up here in Michigan so I hope to be burning gas for 6-8 more weeks!!! Any way, need a break from the monthly fuel bills :)) Jeff |
Jeff, if it must be outside:eek: shrink wrap it, covers and all:eek:

My mooring / trailer cover is made from aqualon. It only sat one on winter before inside storage but it held up great. I did shovel any snow off of it just for piece of mind.
The cover has been on the boat since new in 1997 and is just this year showing signs of age. But I NEVER treated it or did anything the canvas guy said. Much better then Sunbrella. |
