I have a 90 185xlt. 350 Mag. Looks like new and best hull I've ever owned. Nice to hear others with same boat. Powerplay to Powerquest name change does confuse people

The name change from Power Play to PQ was during 1991. Dan Weinstein the owner of Powerplay Boats in Fla. made a legal move on the name. Even though he didn't start his business till approx. 1987 and Power Play Boats of Holland Mi started in 1983 he claimed infringement. As I remember, and feel free to correct my memory , Weinstein was racing a Cobra (which later became the Powerplay 33) and it was named Powerplay. Since his boat was named Powerplay, and later on his company was named Powerplay, even though it was started 4 years after Power Play Boats, he went for it. Word was Power Play decided to change to PQ as the only ones benefiting were the Lawyers. If you look close many of the 91 models have a small PQ logo on the upper right stern while the Power Play logo is still on the sides. And, if you see a Power Play with the "script" logo you know its old. |
