O.K. so I have always wanted a boat, and now I can have one. so, I have been shopping for my first boat for about a year. After spending time on a number of boats, ranging from Baja's to Cigarette's, and endless hours of research I believe I have narrowed it down. I am thinking that my first boat will be an Active Thunder. I am undecided on a 25 or a 28. I would like a single engine, being my first boat and all, and I am a little nervous about the docking. Will a 28 be to much boat for me? I am not concerned with speed. my focus is more on the handling and control. As my last bit of research and to get myself more involved in boating I wanted to ask a few of the more experienced boaters for there opinion. So, how about it guys and girls what do you think?
Oh ya and to make a long story longer, I live in Michigan so that will give me a few months to make a decision, and do some more research.
And where is the best place to find a used active thunder?!!

Hey what are you doing in the Powerquest forum if your looking for an Active thunder?
I have a 26 Powerquest for sale in the classifieds if your interested
As for Active thunder it's a real nce boat. I looked at them before I bought my Powerquest. The 25 is a little narrow but runs real well. My wife liked the comforts of the Powerquest a little better. The 28 is a pretty rare Active. You can find them, but you have to look. Check the OSO ads boat trader. Good luck with the search

We have a 280 Silencer for sale that I have demo'd . I am by know means an 'expierienced boater' but as soon as I got used to the Gaffrig controls it was no problem. I agree with the single screw idea, it's much easier for a beginner.

If you're a rookie to boating, don't go too big. Especially if you're boating on smaller water. I considered the 25 Active and really liked it, until I found my Powerquest. The Powerquest is a wider, more stable hull. In my opinion, a much better all around boat. Comfort, controls, performance and handling are all there, and their finish work is solid! I ran in a poker run this summer and a guy was running the 25 Active, lets just say I'm not upset that I chose the Powerquest. As for where to locate a boat, there's LOTS on www.boattrader.com and the classifieds here. Take your time and don't settle. Get what you're looking for in engine choice and graffics. Good luck!

I have a 28' PQ single and it is a very easy boat to handle/dock even for a begineer.
Singles will be easier on your pocket book and less maintenance.

kmcausley,
you may want to look closer at what powerquest has to offer. since you live in michigan i would recomend you go and visit the powerquest facility in Holland. The people there are very friendly and build a very nice boat, and service after the sale is second to none. They offer many models in your size range.....24 ultra (open bow), 260 legend (open or closed bow), 280 silencer (steped hull), ....and more dont want to ramble on but im willing to bet there are few OSO members that would have anything real bad to say about PQ....check them out - Andrew

I'm with ILLFLYBYYA you should go by the factory and see them. Call Mandi she will take care of you. I guess I'm parchal but I have owned 3 PQ's a 97 24', a 00 29' with twins and now have a 99 38' so as you can see I like them alot. There is probably a couple other boats that are close to quality but usually they are alot higher priced for what you get. Just take your time and look close. Take a friend who has been boating for a while to help you.

See the factory, that will finalize your decision. I was up there 11/12, and it erased any doubt of what I wanted. Matter of fact, bought a 29 that night up near Cadillac MI......
I had logged some serious time looking for my next boat. I just don't think you can beat the value, quality, space, and features of a PQ. I have several buddies with PQ's, their boats sold me. Just plain built well.
