Not afraid profile owner
2 Attachment(s)
Started a new thread as most of these end up real negative. Hopefully this one will not. We all know the story of those that have bad expierances because like the news that is what gets all air time.
Anyway for the other 29' profile owner looking for 100 mph I would like to see how your project goes. I have a 97 29' and hit a brick wall at about 85mph. I was running about 700hp guessing as the motor was never on a dyno. Boat now has a 502mpi with Tyler Crockett heads and cam. Gas was killing me 2 years ago with the blower and I hurt a couple of pistons during a wekend on the Scaramento Delta but that is another story. For performance on the 29 I do not know how other 29s ride but mine is flat and wet or a lot of the bottom in the water. Great ride but not the best for speed. We have over 900hrs on the boat and no real problems that others have had. I new what I was getting when I bought and tha price was right. We really enjoy ours. :drink: |
I'm sure that there are plenty of satified Profile owners. The problem that had with mine was in no-way the fault of Profile. I'm sure that John (the new owner of Plumb Crazy) will be plenty happy with it when he gets it put back together. I think that their boats are really good looking.
I wonder why there aren't more Profile owners on this (or the other) board... I'm sure they've built a pretty good number of boats over the years. Hopefully they will start showing up. |
I think its a great boat we'll see how fast next year

I have a 94 Profile and am seeing the same problem of trying to get bow lift. Running a blown 540, dyno 800hp (ATECO). Talked to Randy about the boat running uneven, port side low. I have to keep the trim tab down about 2" to keep the boat level. He said to run the lower unit lefthanded. Called and talked to Max Machine and they did not recomend reversing the rotation, therefor at a loss of what to do. Anyone have this problem
|
We had a 96 29 with a 500hp that did the same thing. Always had to drag the port tab to keep it level, Randy said the same and it was tried and didn't help at all. that was back in 97/98. I would take a look at the strakes are they stright???? I dought it. Also there may be to much hook on the starboard side.

Here is my '99 Profile. Sorry to hear about everybodys problems (be it legal or mechanical).
|
Does it get better (or worse) with drive trim? If so, it could be a drive depth issue. The only problem is, if you were to shorten it up, you'd probably have a worse bow lift problem. Maybe a different prop?

It seems to be unchanged at any speed or trim position. Was using a 28 4 blade hydromotive, went to a 28 Mach1 both labbed, don't see any difference. I have thought about trying a left handed prop, but don't want to have a problem with the lower unit. Max Machine said something about the way the cluch was wound that they did not recommend spinning it left handed, Randy said it did not make any difference.
|
I think the hydromotive Q-IV are stern lifters and the Bravo I's are supposed to be bow lifters. Have you tried a Bravo I? I wonder if Max Machine's setup is different than a bravo. I think they still use a cone clutch, just like a bravo and it is ok to run a Bravo in either direction. Maybe Randy thought that you were running a Bravo drive. I wouldn't want to risk screwing up your drive, if it was me...
|
Sorry I do have the 28 Bravo1. Called it a Mach1, that's what my last boat was. May do some more investigating with Max and/ or checking the hook. Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated. Love the boat otherwise.

One thing I do know is my 29 did not work at all with right hand drive. Complete different boat and I did not like dragging one tab. I always have ran mine left hand other than some testing. I likes a 3 blade actually but I just can not handle the cavitation so I run a bravo1 4 blade. |

Look for it to be runnin a few OPA races in the near future  |
The profile in the latest HOTBOAT mag looks pretty nice. They say the new owner has gotten things togather well.

I noticed the same thing on every single engine NON stepped hull boat I have been in. My Baja and Checkmate did it too. |

I'm running a Bravo1 28 labbed 4 blade. I also have a Hydromotive 28 labbed 4 blade that makes it worse. ( No bow lift). My budy has a 5 blade Bravo thinking about trying, but it is a 30 and I don't think I can spin it.
|
Try the 5 blade even though you may not be able to spin it. It will come out of the hole like rocket but be careful because the extra grip is really hard on the drive.
If you can get a hold of a Mirage Plus 3 blade I would try one. They seem to give the best overall speed and will give excellent bow lift as well. If the 3 blade works then I would send it out to have it lab finished and balanced. I had the same thing happen with my 25 Outlaw. I would run the 3 blade most of the time because it was the fastest and gave the most bow lift. Jackhammer:cool: |

I have owened many single's and the only one I ever saw this happen on was a Profile. My Last one was the 28 A.T.( see my avitar) 525 Xr and never had to use the tabs to keep it level.
You mean the need for tab to keep it level right? Does the Profile have a notched transom? |
No, mine is not stepped.

Not sure what you mean, the transom is straight down with no insets.
|
I have owned 2 profiles, a cat with 575 merc. no troble with boat did have drive trouble merc. fixed concern and Randy and Debbie were very helpful. Traded for a 33v with twin 575 its drive system great boat it is a 2005 model. What little concerns I have had Randy and Debbie were helpful in every way!!
|
I stand corrected I thought all profile ran notched transoms
|
I beleive only the 37 38 & 40 have the notched transome.
|
The 308 I sold to John, has a notched transom.
|
yep the 308 has a notch and a delta pad should'nt take much to make it fly
|
I ordered a 299 mid cabin in 2004 525hp xr drive and had to run the port tab way down to keep the boat up right, talked to randy sent the boat back to dealer they never did get it right, and by the wat RANDY said the boat would run in the low 80s it never saw 70 on the GPS dont belive them.....

There was a thread I think in the Fountain or prop forum on the same subject. I think it was with regards to some of the smaller single engine fountains running LH rotation on the props to counter-act engine torque. If a strake was built up to compensate and right the boat w/o using trim tabs, it would definitely scrub off speed. LH prop would be a better option if available.
|
I have played with this a little... I think it all depends on drive gears, prop, horse power, and fat people vs skinny people . I own a 27' Profile. When I bought the boat it had a 502 with a B&M 250 spinning 1.36 gears and no prop. I borrowed a 26p Bravo 1 and took a mile long runway to get up on plane, once on plane the boat reached 76 mph on GPS easy with only a little bit of chine walk and no lean. I then purchased a 1.5 Bravo out drive with a labbed 28p left hand prop to see if I could cure the chine walk at 76 mph but the boat leaned to the starboard side at 50mph. I then switched back to a 28p right hand prop and the boat ran again an easy 75 78 mph but had chine walk. I do not run tabs at all on this hull. The previous owner had mounted the dual batteries over in the far starboard side of the motor compartment. I have moved them back to under the rear seat on the port side. the boat sits more level on the water at the dock now but has not changed the chine walk. The 27 Profile has a notched transom. So far with my set up the only time the boat leans is if I let fat people aboard or I pack up the ice chest to full..
The hull does take a lot of positive trim to get air under them and they definitely don"t like flat water. I have ridden in boats over 30' that don't ride as nice as my Profile. :cool-smiley-011: |

What do you mean by " left hand wheel"?
|
the prop is a left hand rotation prop not a right hand as most single engine io's are.
|
No trouble with boat handling ,but had a lot of trouble with new owner, took my money for tarp then went belly up
|
for paradigm shift , I ran 798hp at 84-86 gps on flat water I had a prop done we extended the blade s 1/4 " now I get the bow out of the water but no extra speed ,it will run 84 through about any thing ,
|
maybe 2010 will be the year I get this thing done lol
