Default 22 Scarab Mirage,Bravo,Hydro?

I got the boat with a 25 Mirage+. Best speed 64@4600,But its not good out of the hole and I don't really care for how the boat handles all around with the Mirage+. I then tried a 23 not plus Mirage, not good,it Blew out alot. Next was a 22 Bravo. I use it to ski with. Very good out of the hole, seems to work very well but not enough prop. 60@4950 To fast for a stock 7.4L. Any ideas? Whats rpm difference between 2 inches of pitch in a Bravo? Is a Mirage true to pitch? Unlike a Bravo? Is a 25Mirage+ about the same pitch as a 26 Bravo? Has anybody tried a Hydromotive on a 22 Scarab? How many rpm is labbing good for? Sorry, Too many questions. Thanks for any help. Doug

The 7.4L motor needs to run at 4600 RPMat WOT for max top end. A 24P Bravo I should put you pretty close. Bravo I propellers are 1 inch ish less in pitch than is stamped on the prop. Mirage Plus propellers are true to stamped pitch. Bow lifting props are better on your application and lab finishing will allow you to turn a taller which which you otherwise couldn;t turn which wil typically net you about 2 MPH increase over a stock pitch running at the same RPM at WOT.

Most importantly , you can never ask to many questions!

This is interesting because on my 22' Scarab the bow seems very light. All I have to do is trim it slightly for it's max top speed anymore than that the speed falls off. I was thinking that a stern lift prop would be better but I am no expert. I have the 25P Mirage Plus/Accelerator labbed from Houston Prop and I have been very happy with it. However I always wanted to try a 24P Hydromotive just to see the differences.

Neutral to a small amount of positive trim is the best, most efficiant way to run. Your slip is normal for your hull.

Try any prop you have the oportunity to try.

I have a 454 MPI that I have slightly modified. All I really did was increase fuel pressure and cut out that terrible gasket restriction in the throttlebody. Neither of these modifications would work well by themselves but together it really woke up. The intake makes a lot more noise afterward but quieted down considerably when I installed a larger air-box. (no it was not USCG certified) The drive is a 1.36 B1 (that is what it had when I bought it) and my max RPM (horsepower limited) is about 4800. Don't ask me what happened to the 4600 limiter. The boat is pretty much a dog out of the hole but cruises real comfortable at 55-60 MPH. I don't know what Darin did to the prop but the blow-out was virtually eliminated and it holds MUCH better in the turns. I never got a GPS reading with the stock Mirage Plus 25P but my speedo seems pretty accurate and it used to run about 64 @ barely over 4000 before the EFI mods. At least until I trim up then the Speedo falls off and the GPS picks up. The speedo leaks water on my feet under the helm. Go Figure. I did the EFI mods the same winter I had the prop work done so I can't say what the performance increase was on the individual changes. I hope this will provide some good info for you as a road to go down.

WARNING. When driving this boat at 70 it had a bad wandering problem because I had a worn gimbal. I would venture to say it was dangerous because I always felt I had to point it in a safe direction before dropping the hammer. The new gimbal ring/bearing tightened things up nicely and now I can control it. Be sure your steering components are in good shape before attempting to increase top speed.

Good Luck
Roby
