Default prop selection

MY father has an 87 272 SR1 formula with 2 350's With alpha
drives ( non- counter rotation ) He is currently running 23
pitch cleavers, and would like to upgrage them to either
mirage, mirage plus, or 4-blade bravos. Does anyone have any experiance with prop selection on these particular boats?
I think he would like the midrange and eficiancy of the 4-blades, but I am hoping someone has played around with some props on these boats, any sugestions? He can
spin his 23 cleavers about 4800-4900.

4 blades will kill the alphas. I would try a 3 blade mirage non plus. Your also spinning the 350's a little high. That era of 350 mags maxed out at 4600rpms.

Bajarunner, why don't you like the Plus series?

I would try a set of 23 Mirage Plus. They typically have better mid range than the straight Mirage series.

the 23 mirage plus is kind of what we had in mind, or 24 bravos. I didn't think anything about the bravos being hard on the alpha drives is that something to consider?

The only reason i say that, is i had a boat just like that setup. twin 26ft baja, 350 mags, twin alphas, non counter. I had the non plus on it, and tried the plus ones. it slowed it down. dont know why?? Now i have a 29 outlaw, same pitch mirages except they are plus. tried some non plus on it and it was about the same. i think my rpms went up a little.

no scientific reason, just figured since i had a similar setup, might be a place to start. I did hear (never tried) that the bravo 1's props eat up alphas, since they cant handle the torque.

If a boat's running attitude likes the Mirage propeller, they are ussually a little faster on the top than the Plus series. We have seen the Plus's do a little better at cruise though. The differences at either spot are typically minimal.

As always, every identical boat is different.
