Default Prop selection

I ran my 24' pantera over the weekend. 4500 lbs w TRS drive 450-475 hp. I ran it with a 25 pitch tempest plus, and it ran
68 on GPS but it was only turning it 4350-4400 rpm. The boat like alot of trim when running hard, It rooster tails pretty good. The boat lifts nice and is a little loose feeling when you let off the gas, I'm shure that is due to having to run alot of
trim, I would say the x is a little low. I would like to keep the rpm's around 5,200 I was thinking of trying a 23 mirage or mirage plus. Any recomendations?

You are looking for 800 RPM this is alot of RPM. Theoretically you will need 4 inches of pitch to get you there, this is of course with props of comprable diameter. 23P Mirage plus is only 2 inches of pitch and the diemater is 14 5/8 th's for both propellers. So you will only see a 400 RPM increase. How much trim are you putting into the boat?

Julie, I am having to put what I think is quite a bit of trim in the boat. It rostertails probabbly 4 feet high or so and gets pretty loose when letting out of the throttle, but it is where it runs is best at. How does the mirage or + compare with my Tempest plus ? Also if I figure the prop slip it seems to be practilly no slip at all which seems next to impossible to me. What do you think? I look forward to your reply.

I know that 800 rpms is alot out of 2 pitches, but I thought that maybee it would get me more in a power range to turn it a little harder and with some lab work maybee it would get me there. Is that possible or asking too much? Thanks for your help.

A 3 blade prop like the Tempest can make the boat free slippery or loose when coming off the throttle. Especially pulling it fast with a bottom like yours.

Lab Finishing a 23 Mirage will give you 500 rpm to stat with. We can get more if needed.

Your slip does seem quite low. Verify your numbers.

Thumbs up Re: Prop selection

I re-checked my tach , and I am actually turning my 25
tempest 4,800, Which makes alot more sense. At 68 MPH
on GPS that comes out to 10% prop slip. I would -love- to get
300-400 more rpms, but I am not really wanting to go down in pitch. although I found a 24 3 blade hydro 15.5 diameter.
How would the diameter effect the boat, I would think it would act like a bigger prop, is that so ? So far I am thinking
a labbed 25 3 blade would be my best bet. I would hope that it would give me a few hundred rpm's an I could break a good honest 70 mph. If I did that I don't know if I would be best doing my 25 tempest plus or getting a mirage?

I see you got some new numbers on the boat, recently. So running at 4800 RPM we are still shy of your goal about 5200 RPM. So you have a few options. You could take an inch of pitch out of the prop you have now, which will increase your RPM about 200, putting you at 5000, You could then lab finish the propeller for another 250 RPM increase and be right there. The question is will this get you more speed. I really need some informationon your hull and set up to answer this To answer your question about Diameter reductions, this will reduce your stern lift.

I really don’t want o make another propeller recommendation without knowing more first. Please feel free to send any other data you may have, as I am happy to go over it!

Your question about diameter involves increasing it from the current diameter. This will increase the stern lift. This will affect the boats over all running attitude.

Labbing a 23 Mirage will give the rpm you need with 1-2 mph increase. Theoretically, Labbing the Tempest will give the biggest returns on the top end. It needs to done carefully as to not loose the 10.24% slip you are currently running.
