Question Prop Question 39 Super-vee

Question For The Prop Pros. Currently Running 5 Blade Maximus Props And I'm Hitting My Rev Limiters. The Props Are 33 Pitch On Its Sport Masters W 600 Sci's In A Staggered Configuration. I'm Running The Props Turning In. The Boats Runs 90 Mph At 5200 Rpms. I Believe That There Is Plenty More Speed In The Boat But Do Not Know What To Try Next. The Props Were Labbed At Mercury. Should I Go Up In Pitch 1 Or 2 Points Or Go With Another Type Of Prop ?

Ricky call Julie at Throttle up, She can help you. I agree you probably need to go up at least 1 pitch, also ask her about the new px5 Hydromotive also. May be better fit for the new 39 nortech. Good luck you have an awesome boat. Jim Nortech dealer at LOTO

Jim, Thank you for the vote of confidence!

Ricky, I am happy to help in any way that I can!

I will need some specifics about the boat, motor, drives and props.

If you could tell me your gear ratio we can start with your propellers efficiency and go from there.

It appears that you have aobut 12% slip Ricky calculating the props at a 31P which should be fairly close, but without scanning them I cannot be sure. This is assuming that the original stamping is a 34P. If indeed our assumptions are correct. If so , then this an indication of your set-up and drive height, which appear to be OK. I would like to see you at 9-10% if we could improve upon your current set-up. I wish I could be more definitive for your but again without seeing the propellers I cannot tell you for sure.

I Was Told Buy The The Seller That They Are 33 Pitch Maximus Props. If It Is So Should I Try A 34 Pitch Or A 35 Pitch Maximus Prop. Also In Your Experience What Mph Should I Pick Up By Making The Change. Please Remember That I'm Hitting The Limiters At Half Throttle. I Hope To Be In The High 90 's

If your hitting the rev limiters at half throttle, your going to need a larger casting.

We have pitch read most all the Maximus 34 pitch castings at just over 32 pitch. This would put your slip at 15%. We could rework your current props back to the original pitch and actually bend them up higher. However, if indeed your only at half throttle, you will need to work with a taller pitch.

An inch spacer may also help.

Ricky,

Unfortunately you may be a candidate for a gear change. If you are only at 1/2 throttle then you will need a much taller pitch propeller. Unfortunately you are running out of pitch with the Maximus. But keep in mind that they are smaller than is marked on the propeller. If you like the 5B propellers performance then I would consider looking at the Hydro P5-X as they are much truer to the stamped pitch.
