You need the thrust washer on there. Big flat bronze looking thing , put it with the taper part of the hole to match the taper of the shaft.....Bad things can happen with out it.

I believe the trust washer is built into the hub for an XR.
On a standard B1 you do need a trust washer.

Pat's right in that the washer is indeed part of the hub itself. The thrust is translated against the prop shaft splines on the back or most aft part via the entire insert. Same design as a #6 drive to a degree. This is only used on XR/XZ prop shafts as well as some IMCO and other after market stuff.

Wow where did the time go? I remember when it was uncommon for people to use these hubs. I used to get calls all the time at Merc saying, "Why did this Lab Finished prop come with this weird hub when it won't fit my prop shaft?"

For a while we used to change them out for free. We even sent out a flyer to the dealer network telling them in advance that the change would be a running (non-published) one. Still to this day the Labbed props from Mercury only come with HD kits (easier and you should have a big shaft, right?). At BBLADES, we offer what ever kit you want with any Lab Finished propeller.

Ahh yes...............hub kits......................

stay tuned kids..........the ACE drive is coming!!
