Id this Prop

This prop has a # T360R and says 16x22 also has 15 splines..Does anyone know what drive they fit..and what they are good for Stern lift or bow lift ?..Thanks

Re: Id this Prop
Yes, I know what it is and about it.
Had to edit after another look. It's been modified. Still know what we got. Anyboby else have a guess? |
Re: Id this Prop
I know what it is, seen many of them but one hint, it is a little old school and designed for a drive that most here on oso do not embrace or understand but will fit others. A pair on a nice TG or mistress was the hot setup back in the day. It is really designed as a completely neutral prop not bow or stern lifting, but that is only my opinion. Any others want to guess?? Come on guys your killin me ..What is it for????:evilb:
i have 2 by the way |
Re: Id this Prop
Looks like an OB prop. Flip it over and take a pic of the hub from the other side

Here is the back of it

Re: Id this Prop
That is a TRS Sport Cleaver. they had geometry similar to the early SSM2 cleavers but splined for the TRS. They will also fit a standard Bravo1 shaft.

Re: Id this Prop
Are they worth any thing$$$ ..How much HP would be needed to turn them 5000 rpm's ?
|
Re: Id this Prop
Actually, what we have here is a old Kiekhaefer series propeller from the early to mid 1980's. They were designed for OB applications but they were pretty much slugs. Some boby has adjusted it because you can see the restamped pitch.
The TRS cleavers actually had a exhaust tube. They were not over the hub like this prop. It could be made to run if the diameter and thickness were modified to todays technology! |

Re: Id this Prop
They will run on TRS, Bravo, Alpha, and OB gear cases. Trying them won't hurt. You have counter gear cases?
They aren't worth much as it stand there. However, Labbed to a special recipe could make them run pretty good on a OB cat or the right stern drive tunnel. |
Re: Id this Prop
You are right Brett, But there was differences between the TRS Cleaver(through hub) that you mentioned and the TRS Sport Cleaver(overhub) that I am pretty sure was pictured. I did not think that a 16 diameter would fit in many outboard applications, The max for the ob props is usually 15"

i guess....my props spin out now ???? |
Re: Id this Prop
The K series props for OB's were made in large diameters originally. The original props I was talking about had a KA on the top of one blade but often got removed during production grinding. I am going to check some old part numbers tomorrow. Your right that 15" is the normal offered size on OB cleavers. We do offer 15.75" cleavers in3 blade 34's. (special order) We don't advertise them. The old OB K series were offered at 16" but were slightly smaller.

Re: Id this Prop
If you guys know anyone that might want these let me know ...I would sell them cheap

Re: Id this Prop
I gave a call to one of my old friends and mentors. Bob Hetzel. He was the director of Mercy Hi Perf Hydrodynamics for 46 years. He retired 2 years ago. I wanted to make sure I wasn't forgeting a overhub TRS cleaver. He couldn't remember one either. We talked about the Kiekhaefer series OB cleavers they made for awhile till the Mercury ones blew them away. So I believe this to be that. They did play with diameters. You'd be hard pressed to fit 16" on a TRS drive.

Re: Id this Prop
I wont try them..Thanks guys for the great info

Re: Id this Prop
What props are you running now? that may help in trying to figure out if they might be close to working. In the mid 80's I did a lot of work on several scarab II's everything from stock 330's to some twin turbo rides. I hate to disagree with you brett but I had a TRS boat and I could fit 16.5's on and still had a fingers with between the cav plate.

Re: Id this Prop
I will be about 400-425 hp with my upgrades im doing this winter...I am running 23p mirage not the plus I run WFO with these and only turn 4200rpm at about 58-61 mph on a good day with some chop. I ran the boat at Loto in October this year and ran 4600rpm and the speedo was buried at 65 i have GPS'ed at it reads the same as my stock speedo..I also have a set of cleavers I run somtimes they are 23p also..These turn about 4600 and only see 62-63 mph...What do you think??

Re: Id this Prop
ironman, no problem on the disagreement. I forget things once in awhile too! You shouldn't have a inch of room left after a 16.5" prop on a TRS though. We did have 1.5, 2, and 3 inch spacer kits for those drives. Maybe you had one in. They blended in nicely. Otherwise I'm forgeting how long that strut really is!
myscarab, trying the propellers will answer the questions you have. If they are indeed 24's, the added hp will help pull them. They definately thick and heavy. This means the performance and the rpm among other things can be improved. |
Re: Id this Prop
Yep I forget some stuff too that was a 16 diam that fit with about 1/2" of clearance on a standard length drive. The Mercruiser brochure had the TRS listed as taking a 16" maximum diameter prop.
I agree that you should try the props myscarab but beware that the overhub props will slip alot while getting on plane, you may have to rev them up some and feather the throttles back easy to get on plane. |
Re: Id this Prop
When I first got this Scarab i had problems with the props blowing out on the Mirage's. I had them cupped a little and now it seems to do alot better out of the hole..When I run the 23p cleavers they blow out as well but I learned from good people on here to do just that Feather the throttles..I will try these props just for $hits and grins..
What props do you guys recomend with the new changes..I want to be at about 5000 rpms and dont really care about cruise speed ..Thanks again for all the info and advice |
Re: Id this Prop
The TRS was rated for a 16" prop, the TR for a 20" prop. Merc always would have left a little wiggle room as well so I can understand a fingers gap while using a 16" prop on a TRS. Doesn't a spacer add length abover the cavitation plate, therefore leaving the potential prop diameter the same?

Re: Id this Prop
Yes, of course it does.

Re: Id this Prop
Just found theese TRS sport Cleavers for sale and they are 17 diam. The ones you have may have been like theese then cut down to 16.5 diam.
