Ok, took my new to me 99 26ZX, out for a good run Sun, 454 mag mpi. Currently running a 4 blade Bravo 22P, at wot, I was only able to pull 4200 rpms, & 51 mph. Engine seems to be running fine, gets up on plane good, but unless I'm mistaken, shouldn't my rpms be closer to 5000, & my speed be closer to 60? Is the 22P the right prop, & my problem may be elsewhere, or do I need to look into trying new props? Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Yes the rpm's should be higher for your engine. You are running pretty well as far as efficientcy is concerned.

This suggests the engine can only pull this size propeller. It makes me wonder if there is a engine problem. A exact wet weight of the boat can help us determine the accual potential the boat has.

There is a fellow in our marina that has the same boat with a 502MagMPI. He runs a 24p B1 close to 5000rpm and 63-65mph.
Are you trimming her out for top speed?
If yes, you may want to have your engine checked out; she may need a tune up...

Might be a stupid question but are you trimming out the drive or running it in the full down position?

I was definetly trimming it up, right now, I just have to go off of how the boat feels. I haven't gotten my mechanical indicators completely hooked up & adjusted. I did a good ole tune up on the boat, & found that the previous owner had the wrong plugs installed, he had MR43LTS, & they had a very strange color to them. I installed a new set of NGK's, & fired it up tonight, it definetly seemed to run much better. I will take it back out Sat. & see if that is all it was. I do appreciate all the input on the props. I do have to ask, would I benefit from having the prop lab finished? & where is a good place to have that done?
