Default can you us a ob cleaver on in Ib cat

I spoke to a long time racer that has a cat and he told me that he used an Ob cleaver on the bravo and gave him more top end, can someone let me know if they have tried and what are the pros and cons....also can it damage the drive (vibrations?).

Thanks

This was popular a few years ago. There are other propellers on the market that will outperform outboard cleaver props on I/O cats.

The outboard cleavers will fit the Bravo and XR drives as long as the prop has the proper hub for the intended application.

The outboard cleaver prop itself is no worse on a drive than any other. It's going to depend on the number of blades and your drive height.

If you are thinking about mercury 4 blade outboard props they are not availble in 36" pitch of 15" diameter. You are limited to 15" diameter and 34 pitch.

Considering the power the outboard 4 blade cleavers are not going to have the blade area you need. If you happen to have the props availble to test then try them but I wouldn't go out and buy them for your application.

Planning is going to depend on your drive height.

thanks, but the person I got them from had them custom made by Cavenoph (Sp?) and they were made for a kilo run they are 15 1/2 x 36 for sure I used to run them on my cat becuase of my gear ratio and they were the only ones that made me go fast.....I will try and let you know.....Thanks for your input.

If they are Kilo propellers they may be very thin....so proceed with caution!

Oh Yeah,

I can still supply you with those propellers if some one needs them. Dennis Cavanaugh and then myself would make those occasionally at Mercury Racing when the situation dictated it.

As you can see, not many people knew of them and we didn't advertise them. There wasn't many applications that required that diameter. In the right situation, they were very sweet! And still can be.

There are different levels of KILO props. They are not all the same.
