prop choise on 30' Velocity
Trying to get all my parts in order for spring. What I have is a 1986 30' Velocity with blown 520's that make 800hp and 800ft/torque on a dyno. RPM I am shooting for will be 5,200. The boat has TRS drives with 1.5 gears. When purchased it came with no props. Where do I start with pitch, diameter and # of blades. Props turning in or out? Any help would be great, thanx Andy...

Start by turning out to get the feel of the boat. In, will give better top end numbers buta different less contollable feel.
Any props in the upper 20's or low 30's to get a base line will help. We have test props when you are ready.
Specific recipe Bravo 1's will be good all around props. Also worth trying will be Fusion 4 Turbos. Try what ever you can get your hands on.

I know that boat does it still have the speedmaster #2 lowers? the propshaft is bigger than bravo ( standard bravo) check dia and count splines . I think the drives are at least 2" too deep ( the #2s are longer than standard trs) maybe consider konrades they are direct bolt on for a trs

No more speedy 2's. TRS is on there now. Where you ever on this boat before? I guess I'm going to start with Bravo 1's 4 blade and go from there. Konrads would be great but too many $$$ for this season, next year?

Larry D, where are you guys from? What speeds where you getting. How did this rig handle? I got in touch with Thomas Lewis from NY he was one of the last owners. If he built this ride he put a crap load of money and thought into it. This sled was meant to fly. The last guy who owned it, not Thomas, was a frickin idiot, didn't winterize and split both blocks. I picked it up for $12,500 on the Myco trailer and plan to spend the same again on engines and interior. Should be a lota fun when done!!! Andy...

harrisburg Pa. the paint , hatches , interior was all redone by stepp at the factory in about 94 or 95 , origial engines were 370's , and it was on a myco trailer , looked just like the pic you have. engines ended up blown ( was wierd size like 528 or something) I believe dyers did the blowers boat ran about low 90's but set up was wrong I think would have run well over 100 with some set up work owner didn't want to spend the money ( was in real deep at that point) had awesome acceleration but had to drag tabs alot over 85 and was prone to a bad chine walk. all of which could have be corrected with drive hieght and props I believe
boat was used mostly on the chesapeake bay

Larry D, when the boat was new with 370 it ran 70's. With little mods 80 comes easy. Your drives are going to limit you. Some nice motors around 500 or so hps IMO would be the way to go. It would probably go near 90 mph. Keep the stern light and it will handle better. Just my 2 cents.

Larry D, a friend of mine sold Velocitys when that was new. I got to sample many variations of 22's and 30's. The 30 would run 70 with 330's. They used to hurt everyones feelings; even out run other boats with 420's. I remember when the bravo magnum came out. I really enjoyed running the 30's, it's a great 70 to 80mph boat but not very forgiving at high speeds. By the way they all swung the props in back then, I guess they still do.
Enjoy
