HELP with propping/getting bow lift?!?!?!?!
hey guys-
i know someone here can help me. here's the deal..... i've got a 2002 25 Outlaw with a 496 mag HO. it has a 25p mirage stainless, 3 blade prop. when i'm running all out with my drive and tabs dialed in, i'm gettin about 62mph and a max of 4300rpm. to me, the speed seems about right for a top end on this boat but the rpms are quite low compared to everything i've read and been told. also, it is very slow getting up on plane! and besides that....i have essentially NO bow lift while running. i've had countless ppl tell me that i gotta trim it more, play with the drive, blah blah blah. i've done everything i can on board and nothing helps! i'm pushing more water then any other boat around me. can someone PLEASE HELP ME??? any help is appreciated guys, thanks! Bill, not an expert, but, you may get some bow lift w/ a 24p
Bravo 1 4 blade... they characteristically raise the bow, vs. the stern. Regarding the slow to plane, and low RPMs, any chance the hull is waterlogged? (carrying extra weight) Carder |
Yep, I'd go with a Bravo. It will get on plane faster, and help carry the bow a bit more.

Hey Bubba, ask Jess 2 sit at the back of the boat 4 bow lift!!!:evilb:

You clearly have the wrong prop...You need that engine to spin 5000RPM's! Right now you are causing damage to the engine running with that prop. Try the bravo prop as suggested.

The fastest prop that will give the most bow lift on your hull is a 23" Mirage Plus. A bravo prop will not give as much bow lift. I think a lot of the problem is that the prop is too big. Almost all 25 outlaws come with a 23 mirage Plus as the stock prop.
Plaining time will be slightly better with the 23 also. |
Here is a picture I took of Bill's boat. This is as much bow lift as he can get.
I use to have a Baja 272 which is pretty much the same hull. It came with a 23p Mirage Plus and I had a lot of prop slip. I switched to a 22p Bravo 1, 4 blade and I loved it. In my experience that 3 blade isn't enough prop for that heavy of a boat with a single. I think a labbed 22p Bravo1 brought up to a 23p would be perfect for him. http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i.../Billsboat.jpg |
Bill, check that the tabs are lifting to the fully up position (above parallel to hull), then check that the drive trim is functioning properly, and mark on you gauge where zero is (propshaft running parallel to bottom of boat).
I presume you donīt have a cooler full of beer in the cabin, or an anchor with chain under the bed, because that sure donīt help. Tabs fully up, drive out just above zero setting will be where the music is. You are looking for 67/68 mph @ 4900/5000 rpm. An unlabbed 25" Mirage is alot of prop for a 425 powered 25. A labbed 25" would work, or an unlabbed 23". As was already said, you need to get more revs. At the moment your settup would put you at 67/68 mph with 4600 rpm. The 496 definitely shows its best when propped to top out at just before 5000. Above that doesnīt help, and below is a real speed killer. |
wow! lots of good info so far! to answer a few questions that have been asked...the hull is not water logged, my drive and tabs are ALL working correctly, and there is no extra weight being added up front. i keep everything to the back. Anchors, chains, coolers, etc is all in the back.
With that being said...i'm getting conflicting ideas here on how to fix my issues. Some are saying to get a mirage 23, and others are saying a bravo in like a 24p or so. AHHHH! Which is better? My hole shot isn't that important to me i guess when compared to top end, and getting bow lift. So...... ??? BILL |
Bill,
I think it is a personal problem that you can get it up.:evilb: I said a 22p Bravo1 (4 Blade). With a B1 and 24p it will be as bad as your 25p 3 blade. Where is Julie from Throttle up??? |
