changing gears from 1.34:1 to 1.50:1
What do you guys think of changing gears from 1.34 to 1.50? I'm not looking for higher speeds, just more option's on prop's
I am currently running a 26P B1 at 5600 rpm, I thought of getting it labbed to get another 2-300 rpm, But I also have a labbed 30P B1 and a non-labbed 32P B1, with the 26 there are not many options for different props, with 1.50's there is more options for me to try. any thoughts on this, where can I get a set of 1.50"s ?

No reason to run 1.34 gears unless you run out of props to work with. Most hulls work better with the 1.50 gears, better all around performance. Any Merc dealer can change you out for the 1.50s.

2001 profile 280 cat, 622 naturally asperated, 830hp @ 5800rpm, we where able to get 880hp @ 5800 rpm but richened up the carb to bob teague's spec's and lost 50hp, 937ftlb torque @ 4700 rpm, WOT with 26P B1 5600 rpm and 94-96 mph, Drive is a Imco Extreme SC, Imco 12" stand-off with 3" rise in X-dim. 1.34:1 gear ratio, target rpm is 5800-6000, I do all my boating at Lake Powell, Elev. 3600 ft. I could probably lab the 26 and get to that, But I am at the edge of prop availability, if I change to 1.50:1 it opens the door to a lot more props to try, hole shot is not to bad but not great either. does this help?

Changing to the 1.5:1 gear set will offer increased torq and throttle response through out the entire band. The change in propeller switch is typically 2 inches. Labbing will net between 100-400 rpm depending on the recipe used.
