Prop Pros
I have a 98 sonic Prowler with complete 502 rebuild over the winter, including drive and transom assembly. Was running a mirage plus 3 blade 23p. After research got a Bravo 4 blade 24p labbed. When I only have three people in the boat full of fuel and gear I have no problem coming out of the hole. when I add two more people it takes all I can do to get it to plane.
3 blade 23p WOT 5100rpm 4 blade 24p labbed WOT 45 to 4700 rpm I like the handling alot better with the 4 blade but it seems like it is to much prop for the power. I'm new to sizing props and Im not sure what to do, since 50% of my riding is with a full boat. Could it be that when I set the trim I did not get the limit set all the way down? It occured to me last night that this could be the problem. Any suggestions? |

I thought that I needed to go down a couple in pitch but all the research I could find pointed me to the 4 blade 24 pitch. thanks for the input.

just give all the data you have to someone like Brett at BBlades and they can get that Bravo to do what you want.

Who labbed the 24??????
A stock 22 would probably put you around 5000rpm WOT and will come out of the hole better. |
baja 272 496 HO
mirage 23 5050 66.4 gps bravo 22 5150 64.1 gps bravo 24 4800 64.4 gps boat 4400 lbs full thank of fuel same day only me on the boat bravo are a bit slower but handling is a lot better. |
The handling is what i was wanting. It gets old fighting the currents with a three blade trying to dock. I dont mind the lower RPM's on the 24p, but it sure puts alot of strain on the engine coming out of the hole.
Well I'm in the market for a Bravo 22p....Anyone got a cheap one? |
Are you dropping your tabs when you get on plane? I had a Prowler with a 502, boat came with a 22" Bravo I from Sonic, I then got a 24" and had B-Blades lab it and it worked well. But I usually only had my wife with me in the boat. That's a heavy boat compared to the above mentioned Baja. Steve

I have tried coming out of the hole with tabs up and then as I hit ~3000 rpm tabbing down & coming out of the hole with tabs half. I have heard from many sonic owners that the 24p was the best prop for that set up. I am just wondering when I set up the new drive that I have to trim down limit set to high. could it be possible that the drive is not down as far as it needs to be?
