Thanks for answering, I understand your the resident inhouse expert with these systems Yes its alum Bronze 1720 1:1, it has the cylinders for lowering the anerson for trim, as well as the cylinder for turning I measure where the stainless shaft comes out of the bronze casting where the seal is to end of the of shaft is 195mm (7.67") The prop shaft is 1.25" dia (19 spline), was there any shafts ith 1.5" dia x 19 spline built? I was looking at a rolla prop cant remember if it was 5-6 blades, 17" x 24" pitch but 19 spline x 1.5" dia, (the hub may have been 4.75") supposedly from Mercury or Anerson drive, Just wondering whether I could get it to work with an adapter, or am I better looking for a 3 blade older prop any help would be apprechiated |
So measuring from the beginning of the large end of the taper to the end of the splines you get? This is either 4" or 6".. In order to use a current "SpeedMaster" propeller, you need 6" of shaft area after the start of the taper.
Can't answer your questions on propellers as I know nothing of your boat and engine power...... |

I measure the shaft as attached the boat is 21' mon hull, with twin turbo MPFI 454" I suppose 550 hp + do you think about prop size? http://picasaweb.google.com/11375187...20844375068130 |

I cant seem to load picture
however the link is here http://picasaweb.google.com/11375187...20844375068130 |
If it helps this discussion at all, I traded a single RH 16.75x29.5" merc 4-blade cleaver that fit a 19-spline SSMIII in to Scott at Speed N Custom Marine last year. If this is the right spline, the prop could maybe be rounded off to do what you want. I don't know if he still has it. It was a heavy-build prop, probably an 800 hp model.

no never run the boat or drive, picked up the #1720 and decided to fit it, with a motor I had here It has been suggested I should run a ZF or Velvet box/Huber around 1.5 ratio. THere was a steel prop that came with the drive, 14 " dia x 26 " ?(i need to measure the pitch), that had originally came off V drive and hada spline pinned into hub, I think it may have been carselle prop, I dont think it was ever run with it, as the guy I picked up the drive from a guy who had it under his bench for 15 years and never used it. |
Boat size, make and such?

I have some real surface drive props.. there not speed master choppers.. they are hi rake 3 blade rolla's. they are not cheep.. there larger with less pitch... when twin disk first tested the asd 6 they ran the same exact prop's got 88mph out of 450hp running 21 3/4 x 21% pitch..... there's lots of data to say that boats ran better with hi rake from planing at a lower rpm to less prop slap.. I have one RH 21 3/4 x 18% pitch I have one very scary looking LH 21 1/2 x 22% pitch with lots of cupping I have a set of 21 3/4 x 21% pitch.... all are 19 spline.. Hi rake is what arneson sold and pushed supported by B/W & T/D test data b4 adapters were sold.... I'm looking for LH or RH props 21" and 1/2 or 3/4 in size....I'd like to find LH 18% 19%, 20% or 23%,, or RH 19%, 20% or 23% so I can test props when I run my boat. every thing I have is for sale but till I run my boat the props I have are not cheep..:drink: a chopper 17 to 18" with much more pitch then a hi rake will be fine and cheaper. An inch of prop is worth 2% of pitch so at 17" you'd need to be 27 to 30% of pitch for 400 to 500hp... seems the draw back to the merc prop is size finding props over 18 made for an O/B as I read about lots of guys gunning 17" with 33% or 35% and no matter the hp increase only more pitch is added.. or maybe its prop shape? and need to be small to get rid of slap... who knows. I'd let my props go for 1000 for a single or 2000 for the matched set... |
