this came from a posting from

http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/006127.html

Early MIRAGEplus's with the A45 suffix indicate Flo-Torq hubs without PVS vent holes. A46 suffix models are Flo-Torq with PVS vent holes.

that was posted mid way down. not sure how reliable it is.

i contacted a local marine shop about this and they stated the a46 is for 400hp or less flo-torq hubs.

Original Mirage props were A41's with rubber hubs. We also had A50 cast in solid hubs rated at that time for over 365 HP.
A45's, Flo-Torq 2 delrin came out in 1996 and did not have PVS for its debut. We still had the A41 series. In 1998 we released the Plus series which moved us to the A55 series for the solid hub and upping the HP to 400 equired HP. This was also the first year of the PVS system. These props had the deeper Q1 and K1 insert.
In 2000 we went to the A46/A56 delrin/SS inserts at the 1/4" shorter insert level.

It gets a little confusing. I was at Mercury though all these changes and I still get confused at times.
The A46/56 change was the most confusing. This change was only to adopt the shorter insert length to make it identical to the rest of the main line product. The racing propellers (Chopper 2's, ET's, Cleavers, etc.) still use the longer Q2, K2 insert.
