Prop sleeves for #6 to 3a-4-5

Where can i buy the sleeves to run a number 6 prop on a 3a-4-5? Its a thin plastic sleeve for the non splined section.

Try contacting Arneson out in Ca. They make adaptors, they should supply the sleeve.

Whats the deal with these sleeves? Arneson makes the adapter kit, which allows you to use the big shaft props on a small shaft #3 or #4 drive. But the sleeves are different between a say a #5 and #6 prop. So, if you were to use the arneson adapter, with a big shaft prop, which sleeve do you need??? Not familiar with the big shaft stuff yet

i may be wrong but a 3a, 4 and 5 all share the same prop shaft to prop mating dimension. A 3 is smaller. A 6 is bigger.

But, i could be wrong, someone will correct me I am sure.

A III and IV share the same 19 spline small shafts, where as the IIIA and V share the larger propshafts.

The propshaft on a 6 is 1 7/8, the 3A & 5 are 1 3/4. Then the diameter is cut down where the spline starts. These sleeves are inserted in the front of the prop to make up the difference in the shafts. The splines are the same on all the large shaft drives.

The early large shaft props were cut for the 1 3/4 (pre #6 drive), they can be bored out to accommodate the sleeves.

Am I making sense? Doing this in a hurry, on the way down to Holiday Isle!

Where does a 4 fall into this?

MILD THUNDER 02-26-2011 07:13 AM

A IV has the same propshaft as a III. You can switch props between a IV and a III. Basically, a IV is a shorty III, and a V is a shorty IIIA. However, there are a lot of IV's that have been converted to large shaft setups over the years.
