WOW,
Greg @ Cutting Edge just sent me pics of my 32" Maximus that he just finished labbing for me, and I thought I post the pics for everyone to see. 1 week turn around, and they are shipping this afternoon. Can't wait to run them. He also cleaned a pair 28" B1's that I will be selling with the Nordic. |
Looks great let us know how they perform
|
WOW, greg is building me a prop for my 290 volvo soon, cant wait to do business with him very nice work.
|
WOW those look great! looking forward to your performance numbers:eekdrop:
|
Wow they're gorgeous! Almost too nice to get them wet!

looks like he rounded off the ears. are they 15 inch now or 15 5/8 ? What are you shooting for as far as before and after #'s? (I have a brand new set of Max 32's sitting right here..)Chad
Actually, they are 15.25 diamater, the diffuser ring has been cut off .5 ", and the LH I sent Greg was already labbed by Mercury Racing, and Greg just matched the RH to the LH. Then he rebalanced my 28" B1's, and polished them all, (4) props . Greg rushed them over to UPS yesterday, and they are on the way back to me now! :) I'm shooting for 4-5 mph more in the mid-range, and about 1-3 mph on the top. The mid range is more important to me, since that is where I do 99% of my boating. Hope this helps. Dean |

Greg sent me all the tracking info. They should be here Thrusday, I'll post pics. Greg customer service is very good also, keeps you informed every step fo the way. Dean |
Hossman, what power are you running in your 29? Please let me know how the labbed 28's run.

I'm running twin 496 HO's. Best ever was 80 (GPS) with LAB 28's in perfect conditions before I had them reworked for more RPM and lost speed to 78 GPS in normal conditions. When Greg looked at the props he said he saw some things that were questionable but none the less I think every prop guy will always find something different then the other because of styles. Hoping I can get back to 80 or ? with some more RPM in good conditions. Here in Texas (Houston) when it's 100* plus the humidity it really chokes the motors down so I need all the help I can get.
|
Thanks. I've got 496 mags in mine and always wondered if I can turn labbed 28's. Sounds like it would be too much prop.
By the way, your dash looks great with the extra bezels. |

Just got mine back last night from Greg. The finish is amazing on these props and they are razor sharp. Hoping to test them out this weekend and hoping they work.
|
yep,
got mine yesterday also, hope to try them this weekend, if I don't have to work! :( |
Hope you can too. They are calling for 15-25 mph winds here with gusts over that...hoping that isn't true as well so we can get out becuase if not my wife and I are both working the following weekend. Good luck!
|
Got to try them, picked-up 4-5 mph at cruise!! Awesome job Greg!
|
Great to hear that. Didn't get to try ours out due to weather so maybe the weekend of the 28th since we are working this weekend.

Dean, How did the top end compare ? |

Didn't get a chance to air her out, had the family in the boat, including my uncle.......... Next time it will be a solo run... I'll report those results. Dean |
Dean,
Just wondering how these props worked out for you. RAGGED |

RE,
Sorry, still haven't had a chance to run her yet, work is killing me! :( Know that drill! Would be interested to know if your prop guy nailed this on his own or if you had provided him a bunch of info to start with. I need to get some different props that work. So far not so good. |
Great question RE
Some of this falls into a basic physics explanation.

You picked up 4-5 mph over your Bravo 1 props at cruise. This is great, and to be expected normally with 5 blade Maximus propellers as compared to 4 blade props. It's really tough to have good comparison numbers when you do not have original baseline information. Typically the 4 blade props will have better top numbers and the 5 blade props will outperform in the mid- range and low end. That's what makes 5 blades a great everyday alternative. You'll probably find you love to run these 5 blade props most of the time. Enjoy, Brett |

I was hoping to hear a basic physics explanation instead of the polite dismissal of his results, or did I miss it? Rick |
If Dean sees the same top end or better with these Modded maximuses compared to well dialed in Bravos that will be quite a accomplishment as everyone I know has seen better cruise but a slight drop in top end and it seems to take several mods and attempts to get these Maximuses dialed in , I'm waiting to hear the results myself, Smitty

Guys,
The "Lab" recipe I got from Joe L. @ Hustler for my rig specifically, 388 w/ 600's, ITS XR's. Hopefully on Memorial day I'll get to do some WOT testing, if I don't have to work! :( |
AF,
Actually we have attained better top speeds with Maximus props over Bravo 1 or other 4 blades many times. There are certain tendency's we look for when recommending the 5 blade props (mostly customer goals). One obvious way to expect better top end results from the Maximus is to look at the boat (size, Wt, HP), next slip % is a great factor in the equation. If you fit certain criteria with those factors, more than likely you will improve across the board with 5 blades. But, you do have to fit that criteria and more than 50% of rigs do not fit the criteria. That is why we say 4 blades are faster than 5 blades as a general rule of thumb. Speaking of Joe LoGiudice, what a great guy. I've been working with him since before we built and Labbed the first Maximus propellers. I clearly remember the release of the 388 Slingshot at the 1997 Miami boat show. What a great hull! Really the first 85+ hull to achieve those numbers with HP 500 power. We speak often about propeller designs and set ups. He's always a pleasure to sit down with and share war stories with. Brett |

Bigboats, big hp, high X dimentions and slip numbers.
Of course combos of these and other things come into play with a multitude of different applications. Brett |
Dean,
Any updates? Ragged |

Dean ring that thing out,get some rpm #'s:drink:
I guess the increase cruz speeds around 5 mph is norm for adding the 5th blade? I'm still unsure about running the 5 blade and what it will do to my top end,I don't really want to loose being able to hit 100 pretty easy with my stock 30 4b,my 32's seem to bog it down and lose acceleration above 4400rpm,I dont mind buzzing the motors.I'm thinking/wondering if the 5 blade will do the same? Also will the 5 blade give it even more stern lift? Is rounding the ear like that the way they cut down diameter? Rob:ernaehrung004: |
Hey Strip, how have you been?
Didn't we do some 5 blades on your boat about 5-6 years ago? Brett |

Yeah, that would be when we did the second web site. We are releasing the 3rd version in a couple weeks. I can't wait, it's going to be very cool!
Let me know if you want to test some 5 blades. And, yes you will get additional stern lift but the props can be adjusted to help carry the bow as well. Brett |
