Hi guys, I’m looking for some suggestions on a different prop for my 22’ Avanti with a 454 Mag MPI and Bravo One. It came with a 23 pitch Mirage Plus (3 blade) but I’m looking for something to gain a little more top speed but mainly to lower my cruise RPM’s since I run with bigger boats and don’t want to rev as high while cruising with them. I don’t think my tach is very accurate but I have a gps and I’ve been up to 67 mph with a ¼ tank of gas (I never heard a rev limiter kick in but I’m not sure if this motor even has one). I figure with such a light boat and close to 400hp I’d be in the low 70’s. I recently bought a new 24 pitch Hydromotive (3 blade) off ebay that I tried but the boat wasn’t even drivable. I had to put the tabs all the way down and move all the passengers to the front to get up on plane or it would blow out before cresting on plane and also after I finally got it on plane it would randomly blow out while driving straight in calm water at 40mph or so. I’m very confused since I figured going up a pitch in prop would make it grab more; not keep blowing out like this (my 23 Mirage never blows out unless turning real hard at speed and doesn't require any tabs to get on plane). Any ideas on a good prop that my boat will still be able to handle with 4 passengers but give me a few more mph top speed and also drop my cruise rpm’s a little bit? Thanks

mbobb,
First, we can't really make to much of a conclusion on the Hydromotive since it was purchased used. Often repaired propellers can be repaired incorectly if done by a facility that isn't authorized to repair the specific propeller or doesn't have the correct tooling. If it is truely stock and unmodified, your hull and set up doesn't respond to that propeller geometry.
Gaining more cruise speed and efficiancy can be accomplished by going up in pitch and/or by changing geometry. Depending on the rpm you are currently turning the Mirage 23, adecision can be made to go to a different propeller or possibly even working your current propeller to new geometry.
If you would like to discuss your options in depth. Please call anytime and we'll explain some different ideas. Make sure to have the rpm at WOT handy and you gear ratio.

Thanks Brett, I appreciate the info and offer. It probably won't be until sometime next year that I upgrade the tach so I was just looking to get some ideas on a better prop upgrade. Does anyone else with a similar boat/power have any suggestions?
