Prop help for 27' Fountain

Based on what everyone post about how fast their Boat runs ....... I need help !

96' - 27 Fountain 502 with a little motor work done

15 1/4 X 22 - on GPS would run 56 @ 4700 RPM

15 1/4 X 24 - on GPS would run 58 @ 4500 RPM

Any help I will take ! .......... Fountain claims the Boat should run 70 with my setup

I think you are in the ballpark with the props. Based on your RPM's/speed are you sure your not missing something with the motor setup?

ALL_IN! 10-01-2015 02:54 PM

I had both of those props on an '00 27 Fever and hit 70 with the 24's. I would start looking at the health of the engine.

Got it ............
Q) Were you Props 15 1/4 in Dia. ?

Q) What were you tabs set at ? ............... I was running with them all the way Up

Hours on engine? Compression and leak down test?

David27Fountain 10-01-2015 06:51 PM

The Boat has around 400 total ............ the Original Owner did not keep accurate records so I'm not sure when he had Triple R Racing in Ill. do the engine work. I plan on doing Comp. test this winter

Q) Could it be I'm not getting enough Fuel to the Motor ........... I have Elec. Fuel Pump - Holly 7lbs. but I need to add Pressure Gauge to see where it's at ???

What 502, Merc Mag or crate motor? Any idea on hp?

No. looking at the Invoice Triple R - replaced Pistons, Rings, Rod & Main Bearings, Timing Chain, Dart Heads and Balanced the Engine 502 Mag

Padraig 10-01-2015 07:33 PM

Something is wrong. My 1998 Velocity 280 with a 502 mag would run 68 no problem......light load a good chop and some work 72 was possible. Now I know Velocity is faster, :ernaehrung004: but you, IMO should be at least mid sixtys.

Call Fountain and get your performance report. It will have all of that info for you. This is a great starting point to get the most performance out of your boat. Some say you'll never see these numbers, but it will be close based on my experience.

This is from my old 27.

+1 on something wrong with engine setup. My 97 did 69 gps with a 24 hydromotive on a freshly rebuilt stock 502 with cmi headers.

Me friend has a 96 27 502 mag mpi with a fresh top end. The boat runs mid to upper 60s all day every day and can flirt with 70 in perfect conditions. He runs a bravo 1 24p. Just to make sure, do you trim the boat to 4-5 on the mechanical gauge? Also bring your tabs up to at least to 3, if not a little toward 2, that way you aren't dragging tab at WOT. Other than that, it sounds like you might have an issue with your engine.

Easyrider on the performance report you posted there is a Ratio quoted adjacent the Drives that reads 1.54 (171/4 XD)
Can you or someone else explain what this means.
Does it have any relationship to the props?
Thx.....Bob

That says 1.5:1 ratio drive with a 17-1/4" X Dimension.
