I have a 2006 B1X drive with a Bravo Prop and Flo Torq hub. I purchased 835258Q2 hub kit to replace the existing hub. Nothing majorly wrong with the existing, but the thrust washer was grooved and I needed a new nut/washer, figured Id refresh the entire hub assy. The existing spacer has a brass sleeve in side, the new spacer has a plastic sleeve inside and the overall length on the new sleeve is maybe 1/8" shorter. When I set the new sleeve on the shaft, there is significant play all around. Im wondering if this plastic sleeve compresses when you install it, removing the play or if I have the wrong part? This appears to be the correct hub for this application, but its obviously been revised from the part I currently have.

So I still have the question, does this plastic insert deform when you torque it so that the hub centers on the shaft?

Something isn't adding up here. First of all, a 835258Q2 consists of a thrust washer, a "short" stainless steel insert, a brass or Stainless aft adapter, a lock washer and a nut.
If you have a plastic insert, the kit you have isn't the part number you mentioned.
Next, the plastic or stainless insert needs the aft adapter to mesh to the splines on the prop shaft. The plastic insert does not compress but does need to be seated in the prop bore.

My description may be confusing. The large metal spacer (850821) on my existing hub has a brass liner. The same part on the item I ordered (850821-1) has a plastic liner. The entire spacer isnt plastic, but the ID is.

The black liner in the spacer in this link is what I am referring to.

850821 is called the hub insert or drive sleeve. We never made one with a brass liner. It was always delrin plastic since the beginning. It does protrude slightly and will press in after torquing (or you can seat it with a mallet).
Also, that delrin liner/bushing is tapered and only goes in one way.
You could actually use the insert without the bushing as the aft adapter and the thrust washer will center the assembly as long as you don't use a Q1 kit where a Q2 is needed.
