Default Strandard 24p vs a Labbed 26P

My Dad has a Hallett 210 Bowrider with a 496 HO and Dana Manifolds. He used to spin a 22P that he had repitched to a 24, and he kept hitting the rev limiter. After talking to Hallett he went up to a true 24P as we discovered a repitched prop can’t truly get to what it’s repitched too. He’s still hitting the rev limiter although not as bad as before. Now he’s debating going to a labbed 26P which I think his boat would pull on the top end. We’ve tried playing around on prop slip calculators and it’s difficult to gauge anything as the boat limits out due to hitting the limiter. Does anyone have any thoughts on if the a standard 24P vs a labbed 26P as far as performance goes?

Try a stock 26" first and see what rpms he gets at WOT. Have it custom labbed from there.

Bblades has a prop testing program. Pretty convenient. Super nice guys. Might want to try. Instead of guessing

I'm assuming you're using a Bravo prop. Just so you know, a 24 is really a 23.3 and a 26 is really a 25.3 and so on. As you can see the Bravo 4 blade props are not as they are stamped. I'm pretty sure the most you can re-pitch a prop is 1", So if you repitched a 22 to a 24, I'm willing to bet that prop is really slightly over a 22. As other have said, buy a 26 and then lab it to a work.

I have a untouched 24 B1 and a labbed 26B1. The top speed and cruise is the same. Acceleration and handling is way different From Thinning and changes that were made to the blade shape

I'n most cases the goal when Labbing a 26 to compete with the 26 you are looking to get the 26 close to the 24's rpm and crease the top speed.
In todays world we adjust the Labbing recipe to suit the situation. Also, Lab work does require experience on the boat personality, the casting you are working with and understanding the boaters goals.
The tough to take issue is sometimes a boat just doesn't respond to the Lab when you know it should. Fortunately that doesn't happen often.

farmo83, I think a 26 B1 Labbed to your needs will work well. On Hallet bow riders we increase the rake of the prop too to aid in trim reaction to carry the bow better.

Brett - I put a call in for you. I need you to send me a prop box that will fit a 28 Maximus and I need you to send me a Labbed Bravo 28 with the flare cut off and what ever You do to increase bow lift and traction to get on plane. You can't remove ANY blade area or the boat won't get on plane. I have to rev my OLD stock Bravo 28 to 6000 RPM for about 10 seconds to get on plane. And that is with my modified transom assembly for more negative trim.
