I doubt a real OEM Merc marine tech told him this. Maybe some craigslist jake of all trades claimed marine mechanic or possible an outboard only tech --- with that said do you know the credentials of the mechanic whom told you this ?

The mechanic at my marina. He has 20 years experience. So I hear. No info on his actual ability tho. Cannot confirm if he is awesome or crap. But I've decided to do nothing ATM.
