Default Prop Options for Baja Islander 232 with carbed 7.4

Hi, I just bought a 1997 Baja Islander 232 with a 7.4l Mercruiser, Bravo One drive, and Mirage Plus 13704 23P prop. The prop isn’t in great shape, and a mechanic friend suggested I look for a 4 blade if/when I decide to replace it. He said I could get better control around the dock, and better mid-range performance, but might lose a little top end, which is ok with me. Anyone have suggestions for specific sizes / models to look for? Thanks!

Default Mercury Rev 4

I have a similar set up in my Formula. 330 HP 7.4L It had a 21P Mirage three blade stock. I now run a 21P four blade Mercury Rev 4. Way better out of the hole and low to mid range cruise. Pretty much the same top speed. RPMs are about 200 less at WOT than with the mirage. Most folks recommended dropping an inch or two in pitch when changing from three to four blades but the Rev 4 worked well for me at the same pitch.

I would try a 21" pitch Revolution 4 prop. You didn't indicate what rpm you were getting out of the Mirage +; but it has been my experience in the past with similar Baja boats with same power that this is just a little bit too much prop for it. I have a Rev 4 21" on my 252 Islander and it is simply the perfect prop. I also have a 21" pitch Mirage + and it just isn't very good; I get no more rpm/speed from it, the hole shot is abysmal by comparison, and it doesn't hold in tight turning worth a damn. I just keep the Mirage on board as a spare.

Thanks for the info! I haven’t had a chance to test it out to see the RPMs yet, I’m taking care of some maintenance and repairs before it goes in the water. I have replacing or repairing the prop on the list, especially if I can find one locally. Do you have the 14 5/8” diameter, # 8M0151325 ? I’m trying to source some stuff on Marketplace and some of the local groups before buying one new, especially since I haven’t gotten to try it out myself yet.

Thank you, that’s good to hear. Two replies so far and they both recommend the same prop. That should help make my choice easy

I don't know the prop number, sorry...and the boat is 300 miles away, lol! But yeah, it is 14.6 X 21 prop. You will not be disappointed with it if you try it, is my firm belief.
