Unhappy 88 Seebold 236 restoration

Welcome to my lengthy rebuild/restoration! This is my first performance boat and my first project of this size, so I have been relying on OSO for help. This started as a simple engine rebuild a few years ago when I bought the boat. Come to find out everything that I touch needs to be fixed or replaced. The first thing that I tackled was the 20 years of bottom paint, I spent a whole summer scrapping, sanding and polishing the entire bottom. Luckily the gel coat was never prepped properly and it polished out nicely after wet sanding. I finally got to pulling the motor (454) and found it was full of salt water for the last 3 years. Needless to say it is junk. So I have a local shop building a new one. Thought that was it and it was finally going to see water, hahaha right. Then I find that my stringers, transom and bulkhead are wet and rotted. So now I'M cutting everything out and waiting for my order from US Compposits. Ohh yea and my gimbal mount has a hole corrorded straight through so if anyone has any bravo gimbal parts laying around let me know. I think that's where I'm at as of now.

While removing the original tabbing is it okay to peel the layers apart or should I grind all of the edges down smooth? It seems as if I can peel the layers off of the main hull

Some recent progress. Transom is bonded and 2 layers of 1708 tabbing and 2 full layers of 1708. I've also got my stringers and floors wrapped with 1.5 oz and ready to be glassed in.

Very nice job. We had an 89 236 my father bought new back in the day I sold it 2 years ago, turned out to have alot of rot in exact spot. Even though it still looked brand new. Sold to a friend still think of buying back to restorehttp://

Nice boat, hard to believe another 236 lived so close I'm in pine bush. If you buy it back let me know I can help you out with the rebuild I have all my transom, bulkhead and stringer templates. Here's some more progress from before it got to cold.

Sprayed down 2 coats straight gel and final coat gel/duratec. Think I'm finally ready to order the new transom assembly just haven't decided between the mag or the HP.
