10 Meter Updating

1 Attachment(s)
Hello all you "Fountain-heads", wanted to share some updating to my 89' 10 Meter. Started with a blank canvas, had a few ideas but nothing in stone. Wanted to update the exterior, dash and cockpit carpeting to start with.

Had a few years of dock rash repaired, nothing serious.... just cosmetics. They found a little "extra" that some pirates took off the boat. Wishing It was still on the boat.... hydraulic steering ! I had that look on my face... you know when you see your own car on blocks after some fool done stole your 22"s. #$@%&

Here is a shot of the cockpit before, all original to the boat.... except the totally narly engine synch. ( black box to the right of the compass ) Actually worked until it was unhooked last season. Any takers on the synchronizer... ? :drool1

Took a shot of the dash apart... the crew said it wasn't too badly chopped up behind the panel. Fountain did a pretty good job of wiring a boat perhaps. Had the new Livorsi gauges sitting in the garage for four years, before getting around to installing them.

Went to install the new gauges in the freshly painted dash and found this... semi-circle scratches on the lenses. ( at the right angle of light, the scratches really showed up ) Guessing it came from the press, putting the gauges together. Have to applaud Tony at Livorsi, he fixed me up with brand new lenses and he had the gauges back to installer within the week.

Had an idea for the dash... sent a rendering to the painter. What do you guys think, too much, not enough ??

Wanted to get rid of the speedometer gauge, feeder line was always clogged up and didn't like it. Adding a garmin gps unit to replace the gauge; wanted to place the garmin in the same place as the gauge but the painter had a better idea....

MILD THUNDER 04-30-2014 08:27 AM

Not sure if you are aware, but Fountains had plugs on those gauge harnesses, and switch harnesses. Meaning that you can reach into the side where all the wires go into, and unplug like 4 or 5 plugs, and remove the entire dash with the gauges, switches, etc intact. Build the dash on the workbench, then plug it all back into the connectors

Nice ride! I love the lines on the 10 meter. Keep posting pics! I got ride of my pitiot tube speedo on my boat this winter and mounted a Garmin 640 in the new dash.

And each side is marked with tape, green on one side blue on the other. Don't make the mistake I did and think the tape was for holding the plugs together, I tore it off in the dark and wadded it up. How many possible combinations do 10 connectors (5 each side) make? :D That was a nightmare

They finally got the graphics taped out and thought everything looked great... had them replace the rub rail in the back too, showing a little wear. All ready for paint except for one little thing, can ya spot it ?

poiuy10 04-30-2014 09:41 PM

Mild,

good to know that, in case somthings not working. Ill let them know about the plugs next time I see them. Nice avatar man....

Tom. Great looking dash, the colors really stand out on the dash. Whats the doo-hickey right of the compass and upper pod on top ?

While they were back there in the business part of the boat, had them repaint the drives. They were starting to show their age, so they tore them down and shot them. Found one little hole in the port bellow, so all should be tighter than a frogs a$$ now.

nice work

The doo-hickey is the gps antenna for the GPS speedo and the switch is for the GPS speed recall tattle tail.

Worked a little with the painter on scheme and color, wanted a little color but didnt want to go overboard. Love the classic lines of the Fountains.... kept it simple.

Before and after of the side panel, all new rubbers and toggles. Those little items are pricey.... for what they are. The lettering is painted on this panel, instead of a stencil or vinyl.

Kept the dash mono-color, wanted a little more splash but this is perfect for now. The picture never does the real color and luster justice.... the depth is incredible. The painter removed the speedometer, welded a repair plug in its place.... seamless. Lettering is a stencil on the dash, worked out great.... cleared over the lettering, so no chance of peeling or curling.
Throttles painted up nicely, kept the originals.... they had no damage and pleased with result. The Garmin is from an rv, model 7200, 7 inch screen.... was a ebay find 4 years ago. Have to check and see if they make a polarized screen for the unit.

Matching the colors of the paint, on the hull.... had the valve covers painted and the flame arrestor. The step pads were some needed bling to the cockpit, they turned out great....
Have to give KW Gel Coat Repair accolades on the entire project, they exceeded my expectation on workmanship and working through some finishing touches. They even had a small vinyl seat repair done for me, while there too. I would highly recommend them if anyone one is looking for upgrades of any sort. They are located in Gravois Mills, Mo.

ROB FREEMAN 05-20-2014 09:36 PM

looks very nice .

the headers that you are using.are they for a bravo applation or trs?

poiuy10 05-22-2014 10:29 PM

I ordered the trs... but i think they sent me the bravo. Was in a rush when i first installed them, so kept them. Have one pipe that is at a hard angle but it works, no reversion yet !

The stern corners and area between the drives turned out great, the new rail brings it back to almost new. Waiting on the steering wheel.... then time to hit the lake. Sorry for the upside down pictures... im technically challenged tonite. Have a safe wkd to all !!!

Thank you, not sure about the Sammy fan.... who/what is it ? Boat name is after Forrest Gump.... " little white lie never hurt no one.... " , plus an all white hull..... :^)

88bullet 08-14-2014 11:26 AM

CDShack 08-14-2014 03:12 PM

Very nice, cleanly done! I am about to embark on a Scarab resto and this is inspiring!

CBlakeNS 08-18-2014 09:46 PM

Nice turn around!

poiuy10 09-04-2014 09:26 PM

Tooling up the lake on the Shootout wkd, bout half way there I get a bad vibration from the back..... kills the starbrd engine. So I jump in the water to see if I lost the prop or snagged a volkswagen bus. Nothing... get back in to start and slip into gear, kills the engine again. Limping on a single... thank god for two !! Over to the closest marina to pull her out and find out whats going on.

Meanwhile the Shootout is going on, im pulling the drive off to see what is going on. Almost forgot.... having great friends to help you in a time of need, thanks kevin for the assistance and making sure I made it to the marina in one piece.

Got the drive off finally, after a couple of wallups from a bfh..... and find this

The guys say to me... " thats burnt up and thats bent.... "

ROB FREEMAN 09-04-2014 09:39 PM

drive ?

poiuy10 09-04-2014 09:46 PM

Sooooo..... now im talking to those people fron Konrad. Boy are they proud of that stuff, gonna have to find some coupons for this !!! Gonna make the wife get a third job to pay for this, somehow this has to be her fault.... right ? :)

MILD THUNDER 09-04-2014 10:27 PM

Trans tailstock bearing came apart?? Or was that the aftermath of the drive blowing ?

poiuy10 09-05-2014 08:19 PM

Drive is fine... the bearing and u joint took the brunt of the load. Thanking my lucky stars.... thinking the bearing came apart then twisting the u-joint. Splines were unharmed.

poiuy10 12-28-2014 10:21 PM

The boxes have arrived...

Gh700xx 12-28-2014 10:35 PM

Awesome looking boat. Sucks on the drive.
