I've had a couple people enquirer about the L5p, and actually took a few hours to research the pro's and con's, earlier this year. While they don't break cranks now, or burn pistons as easily, they seem to have developed a rod bearing wear issue related to cold starts. Have a strange oil flow porting thing going on, that supply's the rods last.. Also some noted lifter failures in L5P, which was virtually unheard of in the previous versions. So to me, the billet cranks in LML blocks are the best ya can get.

However it did spend an hour last night standing around a 2024 6.7L Powerstoke setting on the floor, admiring how well suited that engine is to being marinized. SAE block pattern, and reverse flow heads, means no exhaust to jacket or wrap. Just a couple adapters to the oil system, and one should be boating fairly quickly. I like anything that makes smoke on the water...

Kidturbo,

I'm curious as to why the inner transom plate hardware is safety wired. Are they known to loosen on that drive?

The 6 drives are mounted to the extension boxes with standard studs. But for the extension boxes, I added custom 1" thick inside transom plates to better distribute the clamping force. No off the shelf 5" stainless studs available, so went with high grade sockethead bolts, and tie wire for added safety.

Any updates on the Baja ? I assume the holidays were a time of rest/relaxation and not too much progress on the boat.....

Bilge is ready for engines, but I've been waiting on a pair of cylinder heads to get going. Plus I'm in Ohio again where it's currently 10F outside for the past 2 months, and don't have a shop with any heat. So likely be spring before anything much happens up here.

The cylinder heads that came off the Starboard engine were warped so badly they couldn't be saved. The spare set we had laying around, also got damaged by a milling machine on a final cut, and also junk. Bought a 3rd set off a buddy while down south last Nov, and those have been setting at a different machine shop since before Xmas. But got word yesterday that those heads are ready to pick up. That's been the main hold up. One engine ready to go, the others is currently a very pretty short block..

Actually have been searching around the past few months for a new partner who'd like to continue with Project VooDoo. Or at least keep it together for another year or so, and sponsor running it at some events here in the states. I've been heavily focused on some other electronics projects for past year now. Half of VooDoo is still setting in my office, where I at least look at it every day.. David's family would prefer to see someone finish and enjoy it as built. But since they have no future plans for it, I don't feel right asking them to cover costs to finish and maintain the project. At the end of the day, the value of parts far exceeds the value that a complete boat would bring. Outboards boats are far outselling I/O setups. And I saw VooDoo's famous sister ship recently listed for less than we have invested into just one of VooDoo's engines.. 24yr old BAJA's are not going up in value.

While I considered this project as being close to done at last outing, it still needs some pricey things like a matched set of props. That and someone to maintain it, who understands it, and appreciates all the time and $,$$$,$$$ invested. So far, I've spoken with 3 people who seriously interested in the powertrain, but none want them in the existing hull. Lots of big eyed twin diesel projects out there on paper. All looking to copy Tyson's stroked out Cummins approach, for some unknown reason.. So I pointed each to Innovation and said, save yourself some money and aggravation, just buy a solid proven C diesel platform and be done with it. This sub 7Ltr 1000hp bar must look easy to most standing on the sidelines. I suggested each fully read both these threads before diving in head first...

So that's the latest on VooDoo. Have a couple more names on my list to ring up. Hopefully someone will step up and show serious interest. For pennies on the dollar, one can stick their company name on both sides, and quickly enjoy a couple hundred hours a year boating with it. Or at least agree to drop all this hardware into a new Outerlimits. Which was our original goal once all the bugs were worked out. If anyone has suggestions on how else to keep this project going, I'm all ears.
