1/ Marinazed it:
- New head gastkets
- Replaced freeze plugs for Bronze Plugs
2/ Reversed the rotation
- Got a reverse cams grinded at "Camscraftcams" identical to the one on the other engine (stock 502 genVI roller: 224/224 483/483: 370$)
- Pistons were symetric no need to reverse the pistons (that was lucky saved some work).
- New Mallory distributor same as my existing on the other engine new old stock
- Found reverse gear for mallory (that was lucky too new old stock 25$!)
- Replaced Crankshaft seal for a flat seal (when reverse seal with lips spit oil out !!!)
3/ Cranked it: fired with no problems so far

Total Engine cost $6900 + new cams $370 + marinisation work and parts $500 = $7770
+ mallory $350 + Holley $500

Ready to be installed !

Going through it now

Just to update you all have installed the reverse rotation new as described above
it is purring like a kitten, have been using it intensively all summer no issue so far!

I don t know if my experience and 6 months search to find a way to have a NEW reverse rotation 502, was useful.

after the fact the process looks quite simple!

1- get a new automotive 502 - EASY available at many sites: Jegs....
2- get a reverse camshaft for rollers (important that you get one for rollers)- that is the HARD part most of the shops don t have the reverse core to grind it!!
3- get reverse rotation gear for your distributor - relatively simple on eBay new old stock can be found....
4 open the block change the camshaft distributor gear head gaskets for marine gaskets and replace the freeze plug on the block for bronze ones. EASY Any engine shop can do it

that’s it
For me it was quite fun
i hope this it is useful for you
