I am looking to get my front windshield made. Two companies near me are say they need to make a mold of mine first, then they can heat and mold a new one. When they are done they said the mold is mine to keep. I am looking to see if anyone has a mold OR if anyone else is interested in sharing the mold cost?? I have a 1987 Scarab 3.

you should be able to cold form that one. I had the screens out of my 89 Scarab III and its really not a tough piece to bend. I have a good friend that did the ones on his 88 Scarab III without issue. What does the shop want to make the mold and screens?

Probably because they want to charge money for something they dont know anything about... go get big cardboard scraps and make a cardboard windshield. 3rd or 4th try when you get size right, Then use it as a template to cut the plexi or lexan. Since it is curved, you can probably get away with thinner plexi. I think the radius you can bend to is 100 times the thickness of the plexi. So thinner will accept a tighter bend. Lexan also bends better, but is softer and scratches much more easily. The orig coke bottle green color of most boat glass is 2111. Although a grey tint would probably work better with your boat.

The company estimate is around a $ 1,000. for the mold then another $ 1,000 for the windshield, probably around $2,200 complete
