32 Target Build

Got this 32 in from Canada. Boat wrecked in 2009(?) i think. Was structurally repaired by the guys at Target. (I also, think) thats the story that came with the boat. Anyways, Boat was started at another shop then brought here. Bustle was cut off to accept outboards. Boat is getting 400R's.

This is pics as it arrived. Will be getting a full windshield, and full paint. All work (except rigging) is happening at Upstate Powerboat. If you are on social media, @upstatepowerboat on facebook and instagram

the owner of target (Laurent) died in a late fall testing on the st-lawrence river near montreal. flipped or hooked and flipped, can't remember. he was found the next spring... not sure if that was his boat or not. I just know they were fast hull.
Nice project! keep posting pictures of progress !

I heard they were fast! I’ll tell you what, this boat has a beautiful build. I think this was the boat that wrecked. I’m not sure how fast it was going when it went , blew the entire hullside out which is surprising as to how tight this build is. Full foam core and epoxy.

I know they run really flat. This tunnel has no draw to it. You could put this dang thing on the trailer backwards if you wanted to lol

going to be a fun build. For a good friend of mine. I couldn’t convince him to put the bustle back on and stay with arnesons. I’m not an outboard fan. Should go quick as most of the brunt work is done already.

we are re facing the transom. There’s a 3/8” foam core on the faces of the wood transom. Never seen that before. So we are doing 3 layers of 1700 and epoxy on both sides of the transom and closing all the holes so there’s no room for cracks and some extra strength against the foam.

Another cool project. When’s the target for completion?

not deep enough into the project yet. Our job will take about 3 months. Plus or minus depends how bad it wants to fight. Waiting on a windshield and motor brackets right now.

Sharp looking boat! Do you know windshield and receiver they’re using? I could have used that bustle! LOL

these are a boat customs adapter and windshield kit. Previous shop ordered it in prior

After a good week of just looking. We got the game plan going. Transom holes is cored In. Tomorrow we’re going to layup the transom and get the scarfs going to cap the bustle area. Cleaned up and trued the bustle sides also.

have a little bit of work to wrap up on the 46 this weekend , but next week after we post cure the transom laminate , we’ll cap in the inside bustle areas with pre built panels of nida-core

Transom is closed, and bodyworked. Have the bustle all capped and in bodywork now. This pre laminated double sided nida- core is some bad ass time saving stuff ! We also scarfed the entire transom, closing the arneson holes. So the entire face of the transom now has 3 layers of 1700 and epoxy , so no worries about old holes coming back down the road.

Is that screws holding the curve potion on? Do they stay when you glass?

we scarfed the inside of the core which was already laminated. We then bonded the double sided nida core to the curve with thickened epoxy. Then we yes screwed it down on the curve. Let cure over night. If you zoom in, on the following photo we removed the screws (now that it’s bonded to the boat) and capped all the seams with 1700 and epoxy. So, yes we screwed it in to keep shape. No we did not leave the screws in. We did it this way to make sure none of the core was exposed on the Interior of the boat

keeping the bustle mullet just to hold beer during the build or does that get integrated as a step or get whacked off?

LOL , Beer holder for now. We are leaving it. The previous shop cut off the tunnel extension not sure why because the motors should have cleared... But its not packing any air, or minimal at best, so we are just leaving it. The boat will be a pleasure boat so could be a seat, a step , who knows.

Rossman 01-15-2020 04:20 PM

Are you worried at all that in ass heavy landings the amount of stress on that thin tail or not? Just curious seems like over time it would see a lot of abuse without much support

-Ross

315duramax 01-16-2020 04:27 PM

Nah not worried about that

315duramax 02-07-2020 07:15 AM

Transom and bustle area in primer. Letting it bake for the weekend and come Monday start blocking it flat. On this 46 we just finished , look at how this monster dwarfs the 32

We dont lay the primer too thick. Sand most of it off anyways. Nason primer. Fillers ? depends on the application. Been using alot of evercoat products lately.

315duramax 02-22-2020 03:02 PM

Transom and running surface done. Baking over the weekend. Monday going to put it down on stands and get going on the windshield adapter

315duramax 02-24-2020 09:50 PM

Boats down on dollies and next to the 40.

Time for the windshield to get done. Should be locked in by Wednesday and get the bodywork rolling in it.

Looking amazing. Maybe I missed it, is the windshield going to be a one piece wrap around?
Would look perfect with a dark frameless.

yes it’s getting a skater wrap around windshield

315duramax 03-06-2020 07:22 AM

Is there no one on Oso anymore or is there just no interest In this build ? Really surprising how there’s not much Interaction.

5 years ago I could have painted a tricycle and there would be 40 pages about it LOL

F-2 Speedy 03-06-2020 08:13 AM

If it was 8 egg beaters hanging off the back of a 70" CC it would be 40 pages

Rossman 03-06-2020 08:30 AM

I love getting an email from OSO with an “reply to 32 target build”! Very much of what I am planning to do on my skater is what you are doing here. Threads like these are priceless in my opinion and keeping “older” boats alive is a very cool thing.

You’ve got my attention 315!

I think 2700+ views is pretty good in the restoration forum. Don't let the lack of comments bother you. People are checking in.

IGetWet 03-06-2020 01:43 PM

What cash bar said. Just because there’s not a lot of comments doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of interest. Not exactly like bookface where every ding dong needs to spew they’re dum bass opinion non stop.

Impressive work no doubt

Tiki Joe 03-06-2020 02:05 PM

like they said...I'm following and love these threads but don't comment so the thread follows the build and doesn't get diluted with a bunch of comments

Knot 4 Me 03-06-2020 02:22 PM

Ditto to above. Constantly checking in!

315duramax 03-06-2020 03:13 PM

Well thanks for the comments. Figured if no one was checking in I was wasting my time posting the thread. Guess I’ll keep it updated 👍🏻

Wildman_grafix 03-06-2020 03:19 PM

I keep reading just don't comment much.
